Now that we are here safely, its time to frame the story of Miss Corrie Delp and Chocolate π« Chip pancakes π₯ !
In the meantime, I encourage people to check β out the first six stories about the weekend with Corrie and Brenden Fariss while I start to sort through the action π¬ photos from today.
It has certainly been an exciting year for Carroll County High School Athletics and in the next 8 to 10 hours it will come to a conclusion here in Lynchburg at the Class 3 State Track π£ and Field meet.
Corrie Delp captured a Regional πππ Championship to bookend the feat with fellow Junior, Trace Reavis in Golf β³. Reavis capped his year off with a Top 10 finish in the State Tournament at Heritage Oaks in Harrisonburg.
Seth Greer and Company returned the Gridiron π Cavaliers to the post season in his inaugural year, something that gave The Hill a level of excitement it had been lacking. Cindy Edwards overachieved with as young of a Volleyball π roster and Shawn Montgomery coached up the Cross Country team that included a Harvard bound runner πββοΈ.
Wrestling Coach West Long sent Samuel Collins to the State meet and four young ladies did the same in a sport that hopes to be officially being sanctioned next year. Howard Mayo returned to lead our Lady Cavaliers Basketball π program and Anthony Barnes & Kris Richardson coached the Boys π¦ to a rare State Tournament appearance after capturing the District title. Bryce Smoot passed Tee Jackson as the All-Time scoring leader on the Boys side. Swimming πββοΈ once again sent a pool full of Cavaliers to Richmond for the State meet and Wyatt Ogle placed in one of his events.
The calendar π flipped to Spring and 12 Cavalier teams took to the Diamond π, tennis courts, Soccer β½οΈ Pitches and Tracks π£. We welcomed back Girls Junior Varsity Soccer and a pair of Rookie Coaches combined to lead our Baseball teams to a combined 38-3 mark and two District titles.
Casey Burcham and Adam Nester, along with Adrienne Harris, Brittany Kinney and Christy Shupe each led a Spring program for the first time. We had Stadium seats πΊ at Cavalier Park, upgraded seating at Bill Worrell Field and The Castle π° on The Hill opened its doors πͺ, providing indoor hitting for decades to come.
Yesterday afternoon, Delp and Brenden Fariss represented Carroll County High School in the State Track π£ and Field meet in Lynchburg.
We lost a local Hero when Jeff Tobler passed away unexpectedly in December.
So many things transpired over the School year and now it comes down to one more opportunity for a Student Athlete to participate in a Virginia High School League contest.
It’s hard to separate the Delp Family πͺ from CCHS Track and Field. Jon and Vanetta Delp have five daughters with Corrie being the one currently in the spotlight now
Corrie, Sarah and Emily
Emily participated in the same events and also qualified for the State Meet back in 2022. It truly is the family πͺ business with Dad as one of the coaches.
Today is Corrie Delp Day here in Lynchburg and we are hoping π for our final Cavalier to shine !
Thankfully for Carroll County Junior Corrie Delp, her main event should get in ahead of the potential weather. Either way, it promises to be less suffocating than the heat and humidity combo from Friday afternoon.
Three of five of the Delp sisters as Sarah gets a Piggy π· back ride from Corrie with their Big Sis Emily standing with them. The Schedule π
The early guess for the first of the three attempts for Delp is 10am(ish). Class 3 will follow Class 4.
Flashback to Emily and Dad/ Coach at the State Meet in 2022.Friday was 100 Meters Day…Brenden Fariss and Corrie Delp
Tomorrow morning will close the curtain on the 2024-2025 Carroll County High School year. Its only fitting that our lone Regional Champion gets the honor π of closing the show !
Lynchburg – Brenden Fariss capped off a highly competitive second season on Varsity Track π£ and Field Saturday afternoon at Liberty University by participating in the Class 3 High Jump.
Fariss started his Track π£ and Field career as an 8th grader on the Middle School team coached by Shawn Montgomery and Jon Delp. Year three in the business ended with the Sophomore winning the Three Rivers District crown π and qualifying for State on the same day.
” Brenden is a well rounded athlete,” said Jon Delp. ” He would be a perfect candidate for a decathlon if we held those in high school. One day he just decided to try the Long Jump and he looked like a natural.”
Fariss competed but did not qualify for the finals in his event but was soaking up the atmosphere at the event. With Class 3 and 4 competing at the same time, the sheer number of Athletes is breathtaking.
” I wasn’t able to jump as well as I would have liked today,” said Fariss. ” But I am happy to have been able to reach this level.”
Corrie Delp ran in the 100 meter dash after having qualified in the final spot at the Regional meet. The Long Jump is her bread π and butter π§ event, but getting to double dip was a little bonus for the Junior. Delp missed out on making it to the finals set for Saturday, the bright side of that being in won’t pull focus from the Long Jump trials.
Delp is three of three in regards to making it to State in the Long Jump but has yet to advance to the finals. That could very well change tomorrow as she is now jumping a full foot longer than last year.
Saturday morning at 9:30 will be the final time a Carroll County High School Student Athlete competes in a VHSL sanctioned event in the 2024 – 2025 season.
