The School π« calender remains blank once again as we Celebrate the Holiday but we can look ahead to Tuesday night when all three Volleyball π teams will return to action π¬. The Middle School will play at home while the Bigger Ladies head down to Marion for thir second match of the season.
The flipping of the calendar also means we are inching closer to Saturday September 13th and our gathering at Cavalier Park.
Head Coach Howard Mayo checks β in with his Motovational Nugget for the Day as well !
On paper this one looked like a mismatch from the get-go as a 1 win Blue Jay team was playing at the #3 Duke on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Blue Devils were not only undefeated but also have only surrendered two goal across four games.
If a fam wasn’t in Koskinen Stadium, they would see the 1-0 Duke victory and figure that the Lady Blue Devils were off their game..
Soccer β½οΈ to the rest of the World π is option #1 and by a wide margin. But as Carroll County is trying hard to catchup with the Glenvars of the Commonwealth, it would help if the fans were able to get more familiar with the game within the game.
1-0 Victory
While the final score was 1-0, the shots taken finished up at 21-2 and the Corner Kicks ended at 14-2 in favor of the Home team. The match was as lopsided as a 1-0 victory could have been and the lack of scoring doesn’t mean that there was a lack of action
Introductions !
The next relevant thing about the game was the size of the crowd. Tickets π went for $7.00 apeace and 744 fans were in the park. As crowds go, 744 watching π Soccer is more than enough to give the home squad a distinct advantage.
Both Carroll County High School programs made significant progress last season. For the MOJO to continue, the word Soccer β½οΈ needs to appear as often as possible. The game is not going away, that’s a fact so getting the game talked about 24/7/365 will make live easier for both of our Varsity coaches !
Houston closes out Bryant 25-18 and will now head back to Texas with a 3-0 record and winners πof 9 straight sets. Impressive, are these Lady Cougars !
2:00PM – Time for the showdown of the weekend as Florida International University and Duke are both 1-1. Each team lost to Houston and both defeated Bryant University. Slight edge to FIU as they swept the Bulldogs while Duke needed four sets.
Play Ball !
A large number of Purple shirts in the House today as TCU is in town to face neighboring North Carolina.
Bryant University in the stands
I’m impressed by the fact that after their final match was over, the Bryant team came back to watch the final match before heading over to RDU Airport.
FIU takes set #1, 25-22. Duke fell behind 5-0 and was playing catchup throughout the opener. Highly entertaining game.
2:36 – Start set #2: FIU 25-16 in 24 minutes.
Duke jumps out to a 6-1lead in Set #3
FIU calls π its second and final TO with Duke leading 11-2.
My phone π± just notified me that the Frank Beamer Bowl π₯£ is about to begin. South Carolina – Virginia Tech for the folks that don’t know. Dad’s old School versus the team his Boy π¦ coaches.
Duke led 20-8 but now its 23-16 as they look to avoid being swept.
Editors Note – Linda was not handling the comeback well, AT ALL. Thankfully Duke held on 25-20 after once leading by 12.
3:30 – On to Set #4 !
Before Christian hit “The Shot” versus Kentucky, we made the Free Throws to stun the undefeated Running Rebels.
FIU Volleyball π
FIU leads 23-17 late in the 4th set
South Carolina 7-5, odd football score.
4:04 pm – FIU 25-20, ending six Volleyball matches, 20 total sets.
5:00 – First Touch for Women’s Soccer β½οΈ
Following the match, the entire Duke roster is positioned at the table for the Autograph session.Stop β 9/9!!
The full page ad in this week’s Special section to support the Fall Sports was there because we received enough money π° from folks like Howard Mayo, Kris Richardson and Travis Osborne β Hill’s Shoes π.
When the guarantee to pay the difference was made, we had to set aside the amount we thought we would need. The good news is that we still had some left over, enough to help fund the Fall Sports Section and create some cool Tops for the Softball team. Added bonus points for the fact we could use the space to invite folks to join us on September 13th!
Β I wanted to take the time to say Thank You π to everyone else that helped fill the space that allowed The Carroll News to create the section.
