Carroll County High School Volleyball 🏐 caps off a perfect week by defeating Floyd County 3-1 Thursday night πŸŒ™ on The Hill

Carroll County started the week with a road victory over Lord Botetourt 3-1 and closed out the perfect week with a similar 3-1 ( 25-9, 23-25, 25-22, 25-13) victory over visiting Floyd County Thursday night.

The latest victory leaves the Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers at 9-4 overall and now 1-2 in the Three Rivers District.

Back at home and at full strength, Carroll County looked to be playing at top speed early as they raced out to an 8-2 lead behind Kills from Ali Wright and three straight service points from Brooke Webb. Floyd rallied to pull within 11-8 before a service violation made it 12-8 and sent Senior Callie Harris to the line.

ELEVEN serves later the score was 23-8 and the Buffaloes were down for the count. Six Aces wrapped around three Webb kills put the opener out of reach and fellow Senior Laiken Burnett closed out the 25-9 victory with yet another Ace.

Set number two was off to a tremendous start, thanks to the serving of of Burnett and Junior Katie Beasley. Those two teamed up on a series of Aces and Corrie Delp added two Kills as Carroll County led 11-5.

Floyd County started piling up solid Digs and quietly snuck back into the set. The Buffaloes never strung together more than three points in any run but managed to pull even at 21-21. The visitors closed out the set 25-23, doing so in a fashion that felt more like a team stepping up than a team letting down after an easy first set.

Set number three proved to be nip and tuck as the teams were tied at 6,7,8 and once again at 13-13, after a 4-0 Floyd County run. The Buffaloes led 22-20 and appeared headed towards a 2-1 advantage until the Lady Cavaliers finished with a 5-0 ,run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ. Two Aces from Burnett and three Kills from Webb led the way in the exciting 25-22 outcome.

Floyd County was hoping to force a fifth and final set. Leading 8-6, Wright landed a Kill and for good measure, added five Aces. Webb added a Kill to end the 8-0 run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ and the chances of a fifth set.

The closing 11-5 run to end the set and the match, 25-13 displayed the depth of the Lady Cavaliers. Harris landed two more Aces, including a Soft Serve one that would have made Dairy Queen proud. Kills came from Webb, Raylee Goins, Arizona Thompson and a picture perfect block from Delp and Thompson.

Freshman Clara DeHaven had the pleasure of sending the crowd home happy by serving the final point in the 25-13 victory.

” I thought it was a very good week the kids ” said Head Coach Cindy Edwards. ” They’re playing hard and I’m very proud of them for that.”

Carroll County will return to The Hill on both Monday ( Pulaski County) and Tuesday (Radford ) before taking to the road for nearly a full month.

The Varsity match was part of the first of three straight Triple Headers as the Middle School 🏫 opened the night πŸŒ™ with a match versus Blacksburg. The Bruins swept out youngest Cavaliers 3-0 and I encourage you to check out the separate post πŸ“« on that match.

The Junior Varsity team played the middle match and the Lady Cavaliers dug out of a 1-0 hole πŸ•³ to defeat Floyd County 2-1 (21-25, 25-20, 15-11).

Again, please check βœ” out the separate πŸ™ Post πŸ“« on that match as well !

Couple of notes πŸ“ now that its Friday morning πŸŒ„, once Kayla Nester is back at it and Coach Edwards is awake ⏰, I will circle πŸ”΅ back and add some stats and quotes to make this one Carroll News ready as Allen Worrell will be doing double duty tomorrow.

It’s worth noting also that Miss Burnett is playing the game at an incredibly High Level ( 38 Assists, 12 Digs) and the Senior is distributing the ball equally across the front line. Webb finished with a team high 15 Kills, followed closely by 12 for Wright (12,12 Digs and 5 Aces) and Delp with 9 Kills. Harris finished up in double figures with 14 Digs.

Carroll County JV Volleyball 🏐 dug itself out of an early 1-0 deficit, rallying back for a Three Rivers District victory over visiting Floyd County 2-1 ( 21-25, 25-20, 15-11).

The Lady Cavaliers gained confidence in the opening set, pulling within 19-18 after a light hearted moment where a Volleyball 🏐 landed well above the Gymnasium floor. Athletic Director Kevin DeHaven smiled about when the wayward Volleyball might be removed from the rafters.

Scarlett Dalton scored an Ace to trim the deficit to 24-21 before the Buffaloes finally closed out the set, 25-21.

Β  Floyd County raced out to a 7-2 lead in the second set but Carroll County rallied to score four straight. Dalton landed two more Aces and Aaliyah Hampton finished a Kill to make it 7-6. The next Cavaliers to step up were Annabelle Short and Aubrey Hanshaw.

Short served five straight and with the score tied 12-12, Hanshaw delivered six straight. Morgan Osborne added two Aces and both Addilyn Stanley & Paige Ogle scored Kills as Carroll County evened the match, 25-20.

Trailing 2-0 in the race 🏁 to 15, Hayden Heflin landed a Kill that sent Osborne to the service line again. Travis Osborne had earlier spent a tough couple of minutes worrying about his Kiddo after she took a ball to the side of the head, breathed a sigh of relief that turned into joy as landed four straight winners πŸ† from the service line to make it 5-2 Cavs.

Floyd County raced back with a 7-1 run and looked ready to secure the victory at 9-6. Hanshaw said, “Not so fast ” , responding with Kills for points 9, 10 and 15. Once again it was Miss Short on the service line that proved to be the 6-0 run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ to give the Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers the 15-11 victory in the set and close out the match.

It’s closing in on Midnight now and I hope Coach Heflin is sleeping 😴 so we will circle πŸ”΅ back to add her thoughts in the Morning πŸŒ„.

Let’s sneak in some Middle School 🏫 Volleyball 🏐 coverage as CCMS AD Kayla Nester creates three consecutive triple headers, allowing the little ones to play on the Big Stage !

Carroll County Middle School 🏫 Volleyball 🏐 opened our triple header tonight and first things first, I have to acknowledge the size of the crowd for the 4:30 first serve !

Brittany Kinney and Assistant Coach Kelly Holderfield had their roster of 17 eager young ladies ready to square up against the visiting Blacksburg Middle School Bruins.

For those of you that are new to this coverage, we will circle πŸ”΅ back to include any pictures πŸ“· that make their way here and will also have Coach Kinney share her thoughts when she can.

The scoreboard will show that the Bruins won πŸ† each of the three sets,25-12, 25-14 and 25-7. The third set was played to allow both Coaches the opportunity to guarantee that they can play as many people as possible.

While it makes for a long day, I am a HUGE fan of having all three teams playing under one roof. Great experience for the Middle School Kiddos !

Highlights for CCMS in the first set included consecutive Aces from Emma Keith, one from Laynee Burnett and a kill from Briley McGhee.

The Lady Cavaliers raced out to a 6-2 lead in the second set behind a Laken Lintecum Ace and a Mahala Holderfield Kill. The match was 9-8 before the Bruins pulled away for the 25-14 victory.

In the third and final set, ChloΓ© Hayes landed a winner before the visitors closed out the match. The roster includes five eighth graders and 12 seventh graders. They will return to the Big Gym next Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Feel free to check back for thoughts from Coach Kinney πŸ™.

Pre-Match Homework !

From Head Coach :

We had a really good night. The scorebook shows a loss, but what many people in the gym tonight didn’t realize is that’s the best volleyball we’ve played all season.

I’ve got a young group, but they continue to impress us with their ability to pass-set-hit. Most of those girls on the floor are 7th graders.

Jerry pointed out several girls that stood out, but two other players that are constantly showing up and out are Hadley Painter and Zari Cushman.

I’m proud of their strength and courage tonight! We are getting better every single day!”

Tonight we played Volleyball 🏐 for almost five hours, Mama Smoot send in some JV Pics on Grandparents Day !

Time to catch my breath and then check with Allen Worrell about the coverage for tonight. Will certainly have full coverage for the Middle School and Junior Varsity matches later on

The question will be about the Varsity match πŸ€”???  Would love some more pics!

On Grandparents Night πŸŒ™, we had one proud Grandmother πŸ‘΅ who noticed the official in the Middle School 🏫 match !
