Would it be possible to properly celebrate Kevin Burress Day without some Softball ? I think not, so stop #2 is the D3 World Series in Salem !

#8 seeded Rowan versus #1 seed and undefeated Virginia Wesleyan University in the opening game of a week long celebration of the sport of softball in the Roanoke Valley.

The Marlins have rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but their rally comes up short at 1:18

Yes, the D1 College World Series is getting underway out in Oklahoma City, and eight teams are set to battle for the crown πŸ‘‘ but we have eight teams doing the same right here in the Roanoke Valley.

$50.00 will get you a pass for the week, and the price drops to $30.00 if you are a senior citizen. A great deal of quality Softball for a fair asking price and parking is free of charge!

Game 1 is in the Books πŸ“š and the grounds crew is working hard to prepare the field for game #2, Redlands versus Linfield in the 4 versus 5 match-up.

The Marlins will have a long road back now, but the beauty of a double elimination event is that you get to keep playing after your first setback.

2:01 has been announced as the start time for game 2….

Options for the next stop βœ‹οΈ on Kevin Burress Day are

Magna Vista High School 🏫 (1:24)

Fort Defiance High School 🏫 (1:37)

Abingdon High School 🏫 (1:58)

Or stay seated and enjoy three more softball games…..

Tough call πŸ“ž on this one….

M-V has Cavalier baseball ⚾️ and Boys Soccer ⚽️ 4:00 & 6:00

Fort Defiance is hosting Alan Knight and his Lady Panthers in a #4 – #5 match-up in Softball at 6pm.

Abingdon High is the site for the Lady Cavaliers Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer game at 7:30. #3 versus #6

Being that it’s Kevin Burress Day, the question is, what would Kevin do ?

84Β° at First Pitch….

Oregon vs. California here in the long way from home 🏑 pairing.

We are just moments away from the two greatest words in all of Sports – Play Ball !
First Pitch at 2:03 pm

Linfield dents the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with an RBI double. Now its 2-0…

Stolen base leads to a sound bite 🫦 ” Life in the Fast Lane ” – clever !!!

Centerfielder throws out the runner at first to end the rally. Great heads up play to save a third run from scoring. 25 minutes to play the first inning.

Redlands win game 2, 9-7…

It’s Kevin Burress Day here on our site, and while we don’t know where the day ends, there was never a doubt on where it would begin !

Class 3 Regional Track πŸ‘£ and Field meet in Christiansburg !

Happy Birthday πŸŽ‚ to Kevin Burress !

Ryan McCafferty of The Carroll News is going to be a busy, busy man today !
Brenden Fariss is getting loose.
In action 🎬

Much more to follow !

The track πŸ‘£ portion of the competition begins at 2pm.

Welcome πŸ™ to Thursday, where it’s all about having Brenden Fariss having some company at the end of the Day !

Morning πŸŒ„ Brew

We also have two softball games to keep an eye on as Page County travels to Fort Defiance for the right to play defending champion Central – Woodstock and Virginia Wesleyan University opens as the #1 seed in the D3 College World Series at Moyer Sports Park in Salem.

As we head into the early morning hours here in Carroll County, we are assured that Brenden Fariss will still be standing as the underclassmen is set to compete at the Track and Field State Championship next month. The question of the day is, will anyone be fortunate enough to join the young man ?

Casey Burcham, Forrest Johnson, and Adrienne Harris McGuire will each look to keep their seasons going on the road. A victory for any of the hard-working trio will advance them to within one game of their respective State Tournaments !

Track and Field

Shawn Montgomery and Jon Delp will travel up to Christiansburg with their Boys and Girls Track, and Field teams will look to add to the individual guest list for the pending trip to Lynchburg. Ferris has once again qualified in the High Jump, and there are two Cavaliers that will be wearing our colors one last time. Amelia Dalton ( Concord ) and Trenton Newman ( Lynchburg ) are both set to wrestle in college next year and would love to extend their high school careers today at their meet.

We also have our top singles and double teams heading to Abingdon for the individual events in tennis 🎾.

Four games are set to be played on day one up in Salem with VWU opening the day up at 1pm. The Marlins are looking to extend their perfect season (49-0) and start with Rowan.

Travis Osborne and his Bible Verse of the Day:

Psalm 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Howard Mayo and his Motovational Nugget for the Day :

File this one under things that made me smile. Our Soccer ⚽️ coaches are constantly trying to introduce their love of the sport to our youth ! Here’s the latest example…

Have a Blessed Day πŸ™Œ

Next up on the Regional tournament preview : Our Burcham Bunch is set to challenge the Warriors Thursday afternoon in quarter-final play β–ΆοΈ

Everyone familiar with tournament play knows that the #4 – #5 match-up is a coin toss. Last year, the Cavaliers finished further up the food chain, which allowed Bill Worrell Field to host the first two rounds. This year, the Cavaliers will have to be road warriors , beginning with a contest at the Warriors’ home field.

Peyton Spencer is having a tremendous season by any standards and with an arm like his a team always has a fighting chance. The next thing that Coach Burcham has going in his favor is the six young men who want to keep playing baseball in a Cavalier uniform.

Wearing the Cavalier jersey is an honor and not one that will come around again for the six seniors. This group will not go quietly into the night.

The third reason why our Cavaliers will hold their own is their fan base ! Have gas ⛽️ πŸ’°, will travel. The Burcham Bunch continues to make strides in the right direction, and hopefully, tomorrow night will be the next example of just how focused they are !

Tomorrow night might look a bit like David versus Goliath, but we all know how that one played out… Forrest Johnson and Jeremy Puckett can flat out coach, so there’s a chance !

Carroll County High School 🏫 Boys πŸ‘¦ Soccer needed to close out with consecutive wins at the end of the regular season in order to punch πŸ‘Š their ticket 🎟 to the πŸ•Ίdance πŸ•Ίthat is Regional tournament play. Done and done, and that earned the Cavaliers (8-6-2) the #8 seed.

Awaiting our Cavaliers tomorrow night will be the top-seeded Magna Vista (15-2-2). March 18th was the date when the Warriors took the pitch against Glenvar, and the two teams played to a 1-1 tie that day.

On paper, this match would appear to be one-sided, but here are some things you should know. Forrest and Company started out 0-3-1 before catching fire πŸ”₯ after the slow start.

Six seniors are set to lace up their spikes at least one more time with the same goal , just keep playing !

Missing Senior – Landon Horton

The old saying about the Lottery, you can’t win if you don’t play fits here. Yes, the Cavaliers will face long odds tomorrow, but you can not win a regional tournament game if you don’t earn the right to play !

Our Cavaliers did indeed earn the right to play !
