While Marion Harris is busy refereeing every game he can up there, he’s still sending us updates on the Surge Soccer team that has a trio of Lady Cavaliers on the roster. Chloe Wright, Alexis Sheffey and Callie Harris.
The first match of the weekend finished up with a Nil – Nil tie π

This post π« will remain open so we can add to it all the way through the finish on Sunday afternoon / evening.
Quick reset for folks who might be new to our site. Here are 10 things readers should know for the experience to make more sense.
Everything on the site has to be 100% positive.
Everything on the site is free for the taking, including any photos that make you smile.
This site is one of four sites under the umbrella π of OneofUs.Care and is set up to 100% Carroll County.
While the content is All Carroll County, it doesn’t mean that it covers All things happening in Carroll County. While we are willing to share any good news presented to us, not everyone has an interest in participating and respect their wishes.
The Hill – this is my effort to give our Student Athletes and Community a bonus sense of pride. Having spent a few years announcing at App State, where everyone refers to it as The Rock, the idea π‘is to give folks an extra dose of being proud of who we are.
Emojis – What is up with the use of all these Emojis??? It’s to make sure that I never take myself to serious. The idea π‘ here is to have fun and make people smile, the reason this is a good natured Blog and not a ” News ” outlet.
The relationship between myself and Allen Worrell at The Carroll News. I have spent almost 50 years now in the Newspaper π° business and it has a place in my Heart β€ that will never dissolve. Ink in my Blood would be a way to describe it. Allen and I work together well and one of our goals is to NEVER write β the same story. A great example this week was Wrestling Coach West Long, Allen covered his efforts in an official Newspaper fashion so when I visited with West it was about entertaining the readers.
We currently have three bigger projects in the works. We are trying to wrap up our recently completed High Jump project, planning what we hope will be a great time at Cavalier Park on September 13th with our Softball community and finally, trying to get all the information people want to have included in our fourth and final Sports related book π.
Diamonds π are a Girls Best Friend is the title of said book and if you see those words at the beginning of a Post π«, its going to be part of the book. This one will have three parts – 1/3 covers how and why Cavalier Park came to be, 1/3 covers Alan Knight and his 40+ years at Page County High School Softball and the final 1/3 covers various short stories about my life in Baseball βΎοΈ. The subtitles are Cavalier Park : Cause and Effect, Page County Softball : Tradition Never Graduates π and finally, 50 Shades of Baseball, as it will have 50 short stories about America’s Pastime.
Up top, I mentioned Soccer β½οΈ that is taking place this weekend up I-81. Marion Harris and two of our current Lady Cavs are up there ( Callie ” Half Pint ” Harris and Miss Alexis Sheffey. This is a great example of an event that is taking place that wouldn’t make it into the Carroll News but means something just the same.
Throughout the weekend we will share more about the event because we have someone who is part of the efforts. Take a Penny, Leave a Penny mind set.
Hopefully, anyone just joining us can grasp what they have stumbled upon!
Have yourself a Blessed Weekend π
Mr Craig Worrell possesses MAD SKILLSUVA and App both have Morning Brews newsletters now
Our Trees π³ give Cavalier Park a distinct Boston southie kind of feel – How do you like them Apples π
Now, if you aren’t a fan of Good Will Hunting, that reference won’t make a whole lot of sense. But the more I learn about the ties π between our Principal and Softball Coach, the more I grow to appreciate the level of bond the pair have.
This part of the book π is about relationships, including the ones between players and teammates, parents and friends, the team and the community as examples. A great deal of my attention is focused on the fact that a Principal and Athletic Director decided that the answer to their Softball program was to offer the Head Coaching job to a man that had a tough as nails π reputation.
Β When Principal Thompson first offered the opportunity to Nester it happened during halftime of a Carroll County football game. When Nester talks about the moment, even now, he has his southern gentleman grin across his face because he just knew he was being punked by his Boss.
The second time around, Nester realized that Mr Thompson was being serious and while I envision Marty McFly being called Chicken π by Biff in Back to the Future, I believe that the line was, ” The Rick Nester that I know wouldn’t back down from a challenge”.
I have a ton of respect for both of these two men and its fun to learn more about how of all of this came about. When it comes to the trees π³ that surround Cavalier Park. I have to admit they are one of my favorite parts of our facility, Nester made sure to sneak in a fun dig at his lifelong friend.
” The trees in all of their beauty, the credit goes to Mr Thompson,” said Nester. ” Who would have thought that a New York Yankees fan would go out of his way to give us a Carroll County version of the Green Monster.”
Our site sends out notifications when something happens to the stats on a given day. Sometimes it a bunch of people checking in but this time it showed someone reading π for an extended amount of time.
While it doesn’t inform me who it was, I still wanted to say Welcome just the same. Sure hope you enjoyed the reading.
Stories in the hopper – Eddie Vaughn and Stephen Puckett in their roles at Gate Keepers of Cavalier Park. Plus, Principal Thompson and his version of the Green Monster πΉ.
Closing with one quick explanation – the earlier reference to Rick Nester having a demanding Boss was directed towards Kris Richardson, not his beautiful wife, Donna Nester !
