Β The term people use is having a Dog π in the Fight while others prefer having skin in the game. Either way, there is a big difference between being responsible for getting the bleachers at Tommy Thompson Field up and running versus driving down to King, North Carolina to watch your Grandson play Middle School football.
After raising three daughters, Tammy is now getting to experience the part of the game of Football that matters the most. Nothing compares to looking out on the field and thinking, that’s my Boy π¦ out there !
The photo π· here is one that shows what existed back in the early 1980’s at Page County High School.
45 years in the making
The night that we were able to dedicate the Field to the name of Coach Alan Knight, the theme song π΅ was the old Johnny Cash diddy, One Piece at a Time.
It was very fitting because of the manner that the facility had grown right before our very eyes π.and done from within. Going from having won a State title but not having a home field to play on to what now sits on the hill in between the old High School and the new High School is Amazing.
When you add in the fact that it was done in-house for the most part adds another layer to the story. Just like the song π΅, where Cash told the tale about building a Car π one piece at a time, the folks within the program created the facility one season at a time.
The dugouts, the fencing, the Press Box, the Pavillion were some of the bigger ticket items but there was plenty of smaller steps along the way.
The combination of people that rallied around each other as the Program grew is an impressive list. Coach Knight and Assistant Coach Viafora were the perfect partnership for a LONG time. They built something together that was strong enough that others were willing to step up once Viafora took up a new role in his busy life. The one of being a Grandfather.
Arthur Campbell, Dennis Zimmerman, Brian Hendrick, Lori Mongold and Meagan Gordon are some of the people that took to baton from Viafora, along with a cast of former players who treasured their time wearing the jersey.

Β The graphics shown above are incredibly well done. Not sure who gets the credit for the work but its Well Done!
Β Many of the games are available on the Network, even more on Facebook through the efforts of the Harris family πͺ. Athletic Director Kevin DeHaven has a daughter on the team as does Travis Osborne, both of these Men are proud Dads π¨ who have the ability to share information.
Β We have Allen Worrell at the Carroll News willing to create space for coverage and we have folks in the Gym taking Top Shelf photos all the time. Add in the fact that we have dedicated Coaches and hard working Student Athletes giving their best efforts π….
The possibilities are endless, just takes some connecting of the dots.
