Now that we are here safely, its time to frame the story of Miss Corrie Delp and Chocolate π« Chip pancakes π₯ !
In the meantime, I encourage people to check β out the first six stories about the weekend with Corrie and Brenden Fariss while I start to sort through the action π¬ photos from today.
We have all made it inside of Osborne Stadium π and there are many a role to fill. Dad, Mom, Coach, Big Sis, Little Sis, fellow State competitor, Boy Friend and some guy trying hard to capture the Moment.
Right now the Class 4 Girls are jumping their three attempts with the Class 3 Girls to follow-up. Here until its over so please check back early and often !
10:40 am update – Girls 4 still at it.
10:50 am – Girls 4 preparing for Finals now.
11:00 – best guess, first jump around 11:30ish
How this works is that All who qualified for the event get three attempts. I believe that the total number is 26(37 actually). After they have all jumped 3 times, the best will advance to the Finals. There, they’ll receive 3 additional attempts.
11:20 – Girls Class 4 is now complete in 1:50 of clock β°. Corrie Delp just received First Call π.
11:45 – Now we know more – Corrie is in the third of 3 flights βοΈ and might still be an hour from jumping.
11:50 – The playing of our National Anthem marks the switch to the afternoon session.
The flights for the Long Jump are 12,12 and 13. They are created by the Athletes PR. Delp is in the third and final flight, the one containing the best of the qualifying!
New Best Guess for first jump is 12:45ish
The upside is that the finals will take place immediately after the 3rd flight is completed. Heading in, Corrie has the eighth best recorded jump of the season in Class 3.
12:15 – Flight βοΈ 1 has completed the first two jumps and are beginning their third and final attempts.
The good news is that the rain π§ held off and the bad news is the rain held off. 82Β° feels like 86Β° and its not down climbing. The rain was going to keep the temps in the mid to low 70’s.
12:35 – Flight βοΈ2 is prepared to start, next best guess for Corrie is now 1:20
The good news is that Corrie is resting in the shade with her Family and friends.
12:53 – we have a Corrie Delp sighting !
The run πββοΈ through
1:06 – practice is over, its showtime here !
1:10 – jumping 5th, first attempt was red flagged.
1:17 – great 2nd jump !
1:26 – solid third jump, we think she is in the Finals but waiting for confirmation from the officials…
16-9.25 makes it, we are in the Finals with 17-7.5, still 1/4 inch from School π« record.
2nd best jump headed into the Finals !!!
1:40 – Finals begin…
1:42 – solid first attempt1
:45 – great jump but red flagged
1:48 – Jumps are finished, waiting for official results…
Saturday afternoon at 1pm versus Murray State and then Sunday afternoon at High Noon are the start times for the Blue Devils as they look to head to Omaha for the first time in over 60 years.
Duke has been playing Softball for less than a decade now but last season the team made the trip out to Oklahoma City for their World Series for the first time. Now the baseball team is in their fourth Super Regional but this time its taking place in Durham.
Clever
In would have been Awesome if the best 2 out of 3 could have been played over at neighboring Bulls Stadium π ( the house that Kevin Costner built) but instead it will take place on campus. The park should be busting at the seems over the weekend as both Duke and Murray State are trying hard to cap off a special season.
Tickets π were challenging to get but thankfully they added some extra bleachers at the last minute. So, once we finish up here in Lynchburg today it will be South to Durham !
Not sure if Duke will be able to punch its ticket out to Omaha or not but it should be a fun watch. If they don’t make it then kudos to Murray State π for having earned its first ever trip to the CWS.
Congratulations to the Texas Longhorn Softball program for capturing its 1st ever National Championship, defeating Texas Tech in a best of three finals.
We always have fun with the resemblance between Coach Alan Knight and Texas Coach Mike White.
The Atlantic Coast Conference is alive in well in Baseball βΎοΈ in regards to the Super Regionals ( Final 16)..
Miami, Louisville, Florida State, University of North Carolina and Duke.
It has certainly been an exciting year for Carroll County High School Athletics and in the next 8 to 10 hours it will come to a conclusion here in Lynchburg at the Class 3 State Track π£ and Field meet.
Corrie Delp captured a Regional πππ Championship to bookend the feat with fellow Junior, Trace Reavis in Golf β³. Reavis capped his year off with a Top 10 finish in the State Tournament at Heritage Oaks in Harrisonburg.
Seth Greer and Company returned the Gridiron π Cavaliers to the post season in his inaugural year, something that gave The Hill a level of excitement it had been lacking. Cindy Edwards overachieved with as young of a Volleyball π roster and Shawn Montgomery coached up the Cross Country team that included a Harvard bound runner πββοΈ.
Wrestling Coach West Long sent Samuel Collins to the State meet and four young ladies did the same in a sport that hopes to be officially being sanctioned next year. Howard Mayo returned to lead our Lady Cavaliers Basketball π program and Anthony Barnes & Kris Richardson coached the Boys π¦ to a rare State Tournament appearance after capturing the District title. Bryce Smoot passed Tee Jackson as the All-Time scoring leader on the Boys side. Swimming πββοΈ once again sent a pool full of Cavaliers to Richmond for the State meet and Wyatt Ogle placed in one of his events.
The calendar π flipped to Spring and 12 Cavalier teams took to the Diamond π, tennis courts, Soccer β½οΈ Pitches and Tracks π£. We welcomed back Girls Junior Varsity Soccer and a pair of Rookie Coaches combined to lead our Baseball teams to a combined 38-3 mark and two District titles.
Casey Burcham and Adam Nester, along with Adrienne Harris, Brittany Kinney and Christy Shupe each led a Spring program for the first time. We had Stadium seats πΊ at Cavalier Park, upgraded seating at Bill Worrell Field and The Castle π° on The Hill opened its doors πͺ, providing indoor hitting for decades to come.
Yesterday afternoon, Delp and Brenden Fariss represented Carroll County High School in the State Track π£ and Field meet in Lynchburg.
We lost a local Hero when Jeff Tobler passed away unexpectedly in December.
So many things transpired over the School year and now it comes down to one more opportunity for a Student Athlete to participate in a Virginia High School League contest.
It’s hard to separate the Delp Family πͺ from CCHS Track and Field. Jon and Vanetta Delp have five daughters with Corrie being the one currently in the spotlight now
Corrie, Sarah and Emily
Emily participated in the same events and also qualified for the State Meet back in 2022. It truly is the family πͺ business with Dad as one of the coaches.
Today is Corrie Delp Day here in Lynchburg and we are hoping π for our final Cavalier to shine !
