Today we start out with something that made me Smile ! My motto of Finish what you Start, regardless of the circumstances, applies to Miss Alyssa Ervin…

Alyssa Ervin capped off a brilliant High School career at Carroll County High School last year after leading the Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers back to the State Tournament in quest of a Three -Peat. The team fell in the State Quarterfinals at Liberty Christian Academy ✝️ but she left her mark on CCHS in a manner that might not ever be duplicated.

After shattering the Cavaliers scoring record, held by Erin Gibson for decades, Ervin headed down to Elon University to play Basketball πŸ€ for the Phoenix.

Take Two

The stay down in North Carolina did not goes as planned for the Ervin family and now its Furman University down in South Carolina where the former Cavalier will take to the basketball court.

When the transfer was announced a while back it was a big enough deal that Allen Worrell wrote about the move in The Carroll News so there was no need for me to do the same.

Sadly, we live in a World 🌎 where people are quick / eager to judge other peoples situations. Once you make a decision about entering the transfer portal, its not as if you just pack up and head out of town the next day.

As I am trying hard to make sure that the next two weeks will be as strong πŸ’ͺ as it can possibly be, I can absolutely relate to the fact that in the middle of what had to be a challenging year for Ervin, she finished up her time at Elon University on the Dean’s List !

The next chapter is in front of this young Lady πŸ‘© now and while we don’t know how it will play out down there in the Greenville area, I am proud to say that I will be pulling for her !

Ed Robtison added some insight in that Kyraha Parnell of Galax will be both her new teammate and roommate at Furman.  Despite coming from the same area, the duo will be starting their time together without a prior history.

Coach Pollard left Duke University for Hoosville last week, naturally his Staff went with him,  βž• some current players and some Blue Devils in waiting….

Mississippi State University pilfered the University of Virginia Baseball program, then UVA did the same to Duke University and now we wait to see how Duke rebounds. Hopefully they can break the trend of hiring a current Head Coach that will trigger a complete rebuild.

Β  Mississippi State is in a better position now to challenge for a Natty. Virginia is in a better position to play on as Big of a stage that the Atlantic Coast Conference. Duke is the next domino in this process.

Pollard left Appalachian State University for the opportunity to work his magic on a bigger stage. Coach put Duke on the baseball map but it wasn’t a quick fix as it took the better part of a decade.

Carla Williams, Athletic Director at UVA, did her job and then some by replacing a Icon of the game with a proven commodity in Pollard. Now its time for her Duke counterpart to do the same.

Things like this happen all the time in College Football with the most recent Big Time example was when Nick Saban retired from Alabama. The Crimson Tide plucked their next Head Coach from the Washington Huskies. UW had just fell to Michigan in the National Championship game but was forced into a near complete rebuild by the time the final domino fell.

Welcome πŸ™ to the world 🌎 of Big Time College sports, it’s here to stay. But if you are a fan of College Baseball ⚾️, which I am, its a good thing to be on the front page of the Business section of the NCAA.

Next Stop βœ‹ Hooville ! Time for Mr Britt Berrier for play Baseball ⚾️ on The Grounds ! Live for the Day…. [Game Postponed ]

2:46 time / 183 miles

In a game that I have always called ” Rest Area Leap Frog 🐸”, I will add thoughts about today at each available Rest Area along the route.

Stop βœ‹#1 – Radford area(MM 108)…. Starting out with the Who, What, Where, Why , When line of questions….

Who : Britt Berrier just graduated πŸŽ“ from Carroll County High School and is preparing to start college as a Student Athlete with the sport being Baseball. While at CCHS he played under the guidance of Kevin DeHaven and in his final season, Casey Burcham.

Where : Charlottesville, Virginia or as I call it, Hoosville. Our youngest of five graduated πŸŽ“ from UVA so its near and dear to us.

When : Today, beginning at 3pm, with the first pitch set for 6pm. Weather permitting has to be added.

What : Virginia Baseball Coaches Association All-Star 🌟 game in which the top players from each of the six classes are invited to showcase their skills.

Why : in regards to this one, my quest is to gather up enough information throughout the day to create a story for Allen Worrell to run in The Carroll News. The story is about a young man πŸ‘¨, who I don’t personally know, that wore our colors across four years and did so well enough that he was invited to UVA.

Ideally, we will get a quote from both of his head Coaches and maybe even Father and Son. It’s a Big Day for a Cavalier and the goal is to properly frame it up for him!

Much more to follow

Funny thing happened on the way to the second Rest Area….Coach Burcham received an email πŸ“§ from the VBCA saying that the game has been postponed due to the Weather forecast and a decision will be made later in regards to rescheduling.

The Breakdown

Coach / Athletic Director Kevin DeHaven took the time to offer his thoughts on this impressive young Man.

” Britt is a very knowledge young man of the game of baseball. He notices players swings and knows what pitches will work for our pitchers. But more importantly he is a GREAT young man. He goes out of his way to make teammates, even the young ones feel as they are part of the team. I will miss him!”

Thank You to Allen Worrell πŸ™ and The Carroll News for helping get the word out ! Eight folks are on board (20%) on Day #1…
