Mount Airy, North Carolina is in the heart β€ of Mayberry and is the home to the Granite City Greenway. A paved a well kept trail π£ designed for walkers, runners πββοΈ and π²π΄ββοΈ bicycles.
1/4 Mile Markers
The trek today took place between 2.75 and 4.25.
This part of the user friendly trail borders US-52 and offers beautiful views of running waters π§ and bridges.
Signs along the way…
Β If you find yourself in Mt.Airy and are looking for a healthy walk, jog, run or bike ride, look no further than the Granite City Greenway.
The elevation levels in the above screen shot displays just how flat / manageable this stretch of the Loop is.
Β Girls π§ Head Soccer coach Adrienne Harris is making her first trip up to Alleghany High School π« as a Coach.
The flip side of the story has Paula Richardson making her Final trip to the far reaches of the Three Rivers District. In between Ashton and Ethan Richardson competing across four years of High School, Paula is excited about this being her final run at the five hour round trip trek.
Β With the Cougars departing the District at the end of the season, it could prove to be a final loop for a number of folks. Never say Never though because we never know when they might appear on our schedules again.
The Girls Tennis πΎ team gets to stay at home again with their match starting at 4:30 pm.
Β ” Tonight was a tough loss to a really good team. Pulaski put the ball into play very well tonight. We had multiple girls that had good at bats. We just needed more of them. I told them that tomorrow was a new day and weβre going to come out and get better!”
Super proud of our Varsity Girls Tennis team tonight. We may have lost the match, but they showed so much improvement from the last time we played Pulaski. Proud Coach tonight of all the young ladies.
Varsity girls Tennis lost to Pulaski tonight 3-6.
Singles: Seed 1: Erika McKenzie won 9-7 Seed 2: Khloe Akers lost 4-8 Seed 3: Tiffany Cruise lost 1-8 Seed 4: Amber Moore lost7-9 Seed 5: Annabelle Short lost 1-8 Seed 6: Allison Wright won 8-1
Doubles: Seed 1: Erika McKenzie and Khloe Akers won 8-3 Seed 2: Tiffany Cruise and Amber Moore lost 1-8 Seed 3: Annabelle Short and Allison Wright lost 3-8
After the long match, Coach stopped by our press box at Cavalier Park to share the results. I was pleased to see that Martin goes way back with both other members of our group. Tammy Tobler and Kevin Burress each goes back well over a decade with Mr McKenzie, making the point that Class appreciates Class !
When we play home Softball games at Cavalier Park and there is a Tennis πΎ match being played I invite our Coach to stop β by afterwards so we can acknowledge their team and their efforts. If the time lines up I can grab a team photo π· before hand.
Hence, the Photo above.

Funny thought about the Boys side of the Tennis πΎ net….
Christy Shupe has spent quite a bit of time over the years with Basketball π Coaches, Anthony Barnes and Kris Richardson. Shupe is coaching the Boys π¦ Tennis team this season and is now 2-0 for a winning percentage of 1,000.00.
The conversation would sound like this when Shupe talks to her Coaching friends. ” I thought you two were really, really smart …..”
