Shane Reed arrived at Hillsville Elementary School 🏫 today with about 30 seconds to spare as he pulled into the parking lot just before his youngest Son was getting ready to start his Home 🏡 Cross Country Race 🏁.
Tomorrow night 🌙 at 6pm, Coach Reed will lead his undefeated team into battle over at Floyd County. The last two wins were both nail 💅 bighters, first at James River and then at Alleghany.
Both victories came at the very end after the Cavaliers trailed almost the entire contest. Once again we will be hopeful that one of the Parents can keep us in the know so it can be part of the Thursday Night running 🏃♂️ Blog.

Coach actually let me help out, just like Vickey Ritchie ! Spent part of the time filling water 💧 cups 🥤 for the runners 🏃♂️ and then playing Traffic Director once the Deputy had to head down to the Homecoming Parade.
This one includes our Injured Runner, at the expense of Ethan Edwards.
The young Lady 👩 to the right of Coach Montgomery will appear in a separate story before too long. Very well spoken individual 👏
Coach brought the Big Guns 🔫 out today as Mrs. Shannon Dalton was his assistant for the meet. Getting to talk education with Mrs. D is the highlight of any day..
Our Athletic Director trying hard to help me catch the Young Ones as they started the 3rd and final Race 🏁 of the Day….
It’s our one and only Home 🏡 Cross Country Race 🏁 which means hanging out with Coach Montgomery at Hillsville Elementary School !!!

Here’s hoping that the Homecoming festivities are Awesome for all involved and I Loved the way that Beth Bouldin laid out her thoughts on the importance of the evening !
Trace Reavis has returned home with a Certificate he earned by placing in the Top Ten of the Class 3 State Golf ⛳ Tournament Tuesday morning in Harrisonburg.
The Junior capped his whirlwind 72 hours with an impromptu Press conference in between sets of the Varsity Volleyball 🏐 match.
When a Student Athlete reaches the final destination of a season there is a range of emotion. First is, Happy to be here and the High End being I could have won 🏆. Place Reavis in the category of the ladder.
Reavis teed off at 8:30 am, the first of fifteen groups set to play the Par 70 layout. The first of the elements that was to be faced was the tempature, which was in the Mid forties.
Reavis was dialed in from his opening tee shot and went seven for seven in hitting greens in regulation. This gave him seven good looks at putts for birdie but sadly it left him with seven tap in pars. Solid reads but none of the putts found the cup.
Element challenge #2 came in the form of a drizzle that would turn into a steady rain 🌧 for a stretch of holes. Cold rain is not the desire for being outdoors, let alone for trying to play the most important round of Golf to this point.
The only double bogey on the scorecard came the first time Reavis missed a green. On the Par 4 and Par 5 holes Heritage Oaks tends to be a little forgiving but on the five Par 3 holes, not so much. The tee shot on the 8th hole (185 yards over water) missed its target by a matter of just a few yards.
Unfortunately it left Reavis with a delicate chip that stayed hung up in the thick fringe by a couple of inches. The Bogey putt was dead was dead center but horse shoed and spun out leaving Reavis with a dreaded double bogey.
Element #3 came in the fact that when the rain stopped near the turn it left the lead group Cold and Wet while those who had yet to tee off were warm and dry.
No excuses here and not that Reavis was looking to make any for himself. The back nine started out a little rough and included four bogeys in a six hole stretch. Only one shot in that stretch Reavis might want back was his approach shot on #12 but he recovered nicely for a part.
Standing on the 16th tee at +6 and just three holes to play, Reavis had a choice to make. Winning the tournament was no longer realistic but focus could salvage the round.
The finish went Birdie – Par – Birdie with the Par being another near miss of a birdie putt. The score of 74 placed our Cavalier inside of the Top Ten !
Reavis was supported start to finish by his Parents and his Carroll County Golf Coaches.
Reavis represented our School, program and Community in a forum that Cavaliers haven’t been to in a long, long time. He did in with Class and everyone involved is proud of his efforts. Don’t mind the fact that Reavis himself believes that his game was capable of carding a 67 or 68.
That’s the best part of his Golf game, the fact that he’s not just happy to be there, he’s in it to win it. This is crucial when playing a team sport that is also an individual one. For what it is worth, I believe in his game too.

The Hill – Aza Petty had an evening to remember and its fitting because her Family has given so much of their lives to the Carroll County Volleyball program.
Carroll County High School (11-8, 6-4 Three Rivers District) celebrated Senior Night Tuesday and took care of visiting Floyd County 3-0 ( 25-6, 25-10, 25-10) right after taking care of Miss Petty.
Players graduate 🎓 every year but this one is just a bit different as it signals the end of a long run of having the Petty Family at the center of Head Coach Cindy Edwards program. From travel ball to School teams for the past decade it has involved Aza, Big Sister Skyler, Coach / Dad Jason and team Mom, Christina.
Petty is set ( Volleyball term) to graduate High School early and begin College up in Wytheville in December and it will be fun to see what’s next for this impressive Young Lady 👩 who has averaged one Surgery per year of your life.
During the ceremony, Assistant Coach Maleah Neely both began the cycle of Love shown and then concluded it. In between Coach Edwards and five of her current teammates took their turn holding the 🎤 and sharing their thoughts on the Petty family 👪.
Once the time for first serve rolled around at 7:15, there was no chance that any of the Lady Cavaliers were going to let their ” Team Mom ” on the court or the Official one in the stands, down.
The Trifecta of trying to erase the memories of at James River, the fact that it was against a team that hasn’t won a Match in the District this season and the emotions from the ceremony made this the quickest match of the season.
Petty finished the night with 11 Kills, 7 Aces and 8 Digs. While the evening was all about Petty, there were some significant things that happened as well.
Junior Corrie Delp dressed in uniform for the first time this season. While Delp did not see action in the match, it was special to see her dressed for the first time since her pre-season broken ankle.
Fellow Junior Brooke Webb played with a level of energy and hops that stood out at the end of many, many points.
Junior Laiken Burnett looked very comfortable in her role as team Quarterback and she did a great job distributing the ball to a large number of hitters as Edwards made sure that everyone was able to take some swings.
Ali Wright combined some Lasers with some soft touches throughout the night. Exchange student Leny Richter entered the match late in the second set, much to the delight of the home crowd. The crowd erupted again when the Junior scored her first Kill in the final set to make it 18-8.
Petty mixed her Aces between well struck and well placed. Others with Aces included Callie Harris, Burnett, Wright.
Raylee Goins opened the night with a Kill on the very first point and Arizona Thompson’s block in the third set pushed the lead to 12-5 in the closeout set. Maddie Hyatt joined the Aces club during the closing set.
Alyssa Lawson and Heidi Painter both received extended playing time and made contributions throughout the match.
Carroll County threw a Party 🥳 for Aza Petty and all of her friends and teammates both attended and participated. Very fitting for such a strong individual and fierce competitor.
[ JV received their own story tonight]
CCHS returns to action Thursday night with an opportunity to officially punch 👊 their ticket 🎟 to the District Tournament when they host Patrick County. The Lady 👩 Cavaliers are currently tied for third with James River but the Knights hold the tiebreaker. The top four teams advance and the only one that can still crash the party is Patrick County(3-6) but the Cougars would have to close out with three straight wins to have a chance to tie the Lady Cavaliers.
*** Tonight, Radford (7-2) will travel to James River (5-3)
