My ties π to Mr. Chuck McGill go back what feels like a lifetime. Chuck took over as the Sports Editor for the Northern Virginia Daily back when I was writing β four or five times a week for them.
Β Even though our paths don’t cross as often anymore, I know that Chuck defines the Oneofus.care mentality. Always looking to use his skills for Good, Chuck is a terrific writer, wonderful Husband and loving Father.
There is little doubt that Chuck will flourish in his new position. How could I possibly know that – because unlike myself, Chuck is incredibly smart and he wouldn’t have gotten involved with something that wasn’t in his comfort zone.
The first in this series was about a brief interview with Rambo Dalton almost two years ago and number two will be on Isaiah Easter.
We are having some fun with the terrific start of 2-0 by the Carroll County High School Cavaliers. Fun note π is that both Duke University and the University of Virginia share 2-0 marks….
Could not be happier for these young Men, their Coaches, their parents and for the Community. Trying to have some fun with them and draw some extra attention at the same time.
Young Mr. Easter has a permanent spot in my Heart β€ that can’t be removed. That happens when a person actually steps πΆββοΈ into something that we are trying hard to create.
Before he became a Rock πΈ Star π, Easter was the initial person to dawn the Cav Man outfit that we purchased a few years ago. His older Sis, Kaylee and her teammates were playing a Softball game at Cavalier Park and Easter was Awesome in the outfit, start to finish π.
After the effort I shared with the young man that he was my favorite Easter. In a split second he responded “As I should Be”.
The makeover of the size and strength of Easter has been astonishing to witness over the years!
So, before he became Famous, Isaiah Easter was just the Mascot at his Sister’s Softball game !
You can catch Easter and Company this Friday night at Tommy Thompson Field – 7pm!
Every so often it’s time to do a reboot so that people new to the site can get a better understanding of what they are looking at.
Four years ago now we took one of our sites and switched it to a ” Happy Place ” were folks in our Community could wake β° up to with their morning beverage β and get caught up on the events around town, all in one place.
What would it provide for the Coaches – a free platform to offer his or her thoughts on their team. Most coaches are limited as to how they can get their message out and this would provide them unlimited access to brag / promote about things.
[ Insert example about Monday night, Ryan Largen could say he was thrilled about the amount of Carroll County fans were in the stands ]
Next – Big Man on Campus… One of the goals is to make every Boy or Girl that wears our colors feel appreciated in the same manner that the Most Important Player is. Equality is not just Rich/Poor, Old / Young or what race you are – it should be across the board…
Example – how is the Love and the Pride that the Parents in the stands tonight in Galax less than the ones that will be in the stands Friday night at Tommy Thompson Field ?
They all worked all day and then zipped across the County to watch their Sons play Football and their Daughters cheer. Those who traveled from Laurel Fork as I did, went 40 minutes one way and wouldnβt have gotten home until well after 9pm. And that’s just Galax…..
Trying to toss a blanket of support and appreciation over an entire Community is a Fools Errand. The goal was to build a solid team of folks that were sharing similar thought processes and were okay with the LONE rule – it has to be 100% positive.
I know that a large number of parents and Grandparents will race home and share their pride on Facebook with their friends. They should do this because they are proud but there’s two issues – one, only a handful of people will see it and 75% of the County isn’t on Facebook and a large number of them want to know how your Children faired as well.
Tonight I approached Beth Bouldin about getting involved with providing coverage of the Middle School π« Football π team. While I don’t know Beth personally, I am impressed by her from a distance and her Boys are involved.
See, while I feel that every game played deserves to be recognized, I cannot do it alone.
This link is to the story that the two of us worked on together tonight from opposite sides of the field. In true Oneofus.care fashion Beth sent along this note π

π, see Beth gets it. The one thing you will notice about our site, which I have operated for 16+ years is that my name doesn’t appear anywhere on it. That’s because it is not about me, its about the Greater Good.
Every Coach at the Middle School and the High School, Junior Varsity or Varsity has 24/7 access to getting their message out. Every parent that wants to show their Love π and Pride has the same access.
The biggest issues I face are these – 1. Only 20% of the County is aware the site exists.
2. Trying to give every program the same level of coverage is a challenge because every Coach views my efforts differently. Some see it as an Answered Prayer while others see π it as someone who is asking for more of their time when time is limited.
3. Unlike say pulling for a College, using the 3 that I have a connection to (Duke, West Virginia Tech and Appalachian State), High School is very very different. Most people only have enough time for what is right in front of them because their plates are so full already.
My goal for each post π« is that someone can consume it in 2 minutes or less and I feel my time is up.
Thank You Beth Bouldin for your assistance and Thank You Ryan Largen for coaching and Thank You π to all of the Parents in the stands and finally Thank You for the time it took someone to read this!
Galax – Beautiful evening for Football and the game vs Galax has kicked off at 6:28 pm.
Will try to create a Post π«for as long as I can with the hopes of filling it in later.
Galax has received the kickoff, beginning the contest on offense. Worth noting that Carroll County is once again well represented in the stands !
Galax moved the ball down the field to start but the CC defense stiffened to force a turnover by downs just outside the Red Zone !
Carroll County has moved the sticks to start the drive. Huge gain on the QB keeper has the team knocking on the door πͺ on their first possession. Carroll County is now inside the Red Zone!! END of the 1st QUARTER, 0-0..
2nd quarter – CC on the Galax 5 yard line….
4th down play and the Maroon Tide come up with the stop β at the 4-yard line. Turnover on Downs…

2:22 – CC 1st and 10 from Galax 25. The clock β° will be an extra obstacle for CC.
Packed stands for our 11
Cavs facing 4th and 8 now in the final minute of the opening half… 23 yard TD Pass !!!!!!!! PAT pending…. (0:41)
Conversion comes up short but Cavs lead 6-0….
At the Half….
Graham proved to be a tough opponent for Galax last week so both sides have to be encouraged by the opening half of play.
7:20 – 2nd half kickoff returned by Carroll County to their 49.
Cavs pick up to two quick first downs and are once again knocking on the door πͺ. Tempature continues to drop as nightfall approaches.
Flag π³slows down the drive a bit.
Not so fast young man, Highlight reel pass play leads to a 34 yard TD play (3:36). Two point conversion comes up just short, CC 12-0.
Back to the TD pass play – the indented receiver was juggling the ball and then it flew forward to the Cavalier trailing the play for the TD !
Galax has the ball now near midfield.
Beth Bouldin is on our sideline, helping with our little production while I am on the Galax sideline to capture our fans
Some of Beth’s handiwork !
On 2 and 19, Galax breaks a long run down our 8 yard line and on 1st and Goal the Maroon Tide score on a TD pass and convert the 2-point conversion.
0:48.1 (3) – Carroll County 12, Galax 8
This gentleman sitting next to me is kind, informative and a member of the Galax Varsity staff.
4th Quarter – Final 8:00 minutes
5:55 – on the Clock β° and Galax forces a fumble and returns it for a TD. Our QB shaken up on the play. π.
Galax is setting up for the 2-point conversion – Pass complete, Galax leads 16-12.
Flag on the play – Galax kickoff coming from their 25. Sensational return from our #23 would of had us at the Galax 11 but a penalty brings it all back. 1st and 10, own 33.
Galax forces another fumble and scores a TD but its called back on a Penalty.
4:20 remains – Galax on the CCHS 30, Cavs need a defensive stop β!
Beth with the much needed info !
No roster and No announcer makes this a bit of a challenge…
Play of the Game – 4th and 1 for Galax with 2:55….First Down, Maroon Tide. That might seal the deal.
1st and Goal from the 6… Nightfall is here.
2:08 – Galax punches it in, score 22-12. PAT Kick turns into a 2-point pass play. Now 24-12.
Cavs will get one more opportunity now with 2:07 left.
55 yard kick return shows that the Cavs won’t go quietly. 1st and 10 from Galax 30 (1:52). Pretty sure that was #23 on the great return (Josiah).
Carroll County with a third fumble but this time we recover it. 2 & 17
Final Horn π· – 8:11 pm.
Cavs played tough, falling 24-12. Plenty of effort π and Fan support !
