Welcome 🙏 to Thursday Morning 🌄 as we prepare to visit our Next Door 🚪 Neighbors !

There’s something special about getting together with the folks over at Floyd County High School 🏫. While its 29 miles between the two School campuses, it truly does feel like you’re just visiting your family 👪 when its time to play the Buffaloes.

Tonight Head Coach Cindy Edwards will travel over to Floyd for the first of two matches. FCHS picked up four early season wins by sweeping both Liberty and Pulaski County but has struggled just a bit as of late.

Carroll County enters the night 🌙 at 4-4 overall, 2-1 in the Three Rivers District. The Lady 👩 Cavaliers are in the middle of a three match week as the team is set to head over to Gate City on Saturday afternoon for the front end of a home and home series.

Gate City will return the favor on Saturday October 5th.

Let’s get back to the Buffaloes and the unique things about why its the best rivalry that CCHS has inside of the TRD. Floyd is a beautiful little hamlet nestled inside the woods and hills that separate the two Schools. Some would say its a smaller version of Hillsville with the fact that I-77 corridor allowed The Hill to spread its wings just a bit more over the years.

Floyd County is home to a number of veteran Coaches that have been leading their teams into battle for decades and they are dominant in a number of Sports. The fact that they have their Mascot mounted on their Gym wall is pretty Cool as well.

Maybe its the fact that the other teams in the District have so little in common with Carroll County that makes it feel special ? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that folks hunt together in the woods that separate the towns.

Then again it might just be that folks like Sherry Slaughter have dual citizenship, making it fun to get together with your neighbors.

Don’t mistake the fact that both Coaches, Jason Petty and Cindy Edwards will look to defeat their opponents tonight when first serve takes place at 5:30. It’s the fact that it will feel a bit more like an after Church gathering than some of the other nights 🌙.

Aza Petty will be playing her final match under the Giant Buffalo 🐃 head tonight and if you make the trek over to watch the contest you will be in good company. While the VB team fan base isn’t massive in numbers, they make up for it with their energy and passion for the game and Love for their Kiddos.

Tonight you could stay at home and watch NFL football 🏈 or App State football on the rare Thursday night. But one should consider the option 🤔 of heading out to see 👀 28 young Ladies play Volleyball 🏐 against the Buffaloes.

If you brave the weather and make the drive 🚗 over you won’t be disappointed and you might even score a Tootsie Pop from Mama Petty!

What better way to say Happy Anniversary to Mr & Mrs Newman ❤ than mention that one of their Daughters Soccer ⚽️ teams is getting ready to take the Pitch down in Montreat, North Carolina

Had the pleasure of chatting with Officer Newman at the Volleyball 🏐 match last night 🌙 and then a couple of hours later I found out they were Celebrating their Wedding 💒 Anniversary today !

In the brief conversation Dad shared with me just a few of the things his Girls 👧 are up to at their two Campuses and nobody should be surprised as to the level of things that KK and Ashlyn Newman have going on in their lives.

The Rams 🐏 will be facing a tough opponent tonight and we hope to circle back to find the results before the evening of over.

Hope the Day was as Awesome as the folks celebrating !

Rams 🐏 🐏🐏 are hanging tough early !

Rams 🐏 were out shot 24-0 across the first 45:00 minutes but trail just 1-0… #Grit

The game has gone final at 4-0 but give the Rams 🐏 credit for putting up a great fight on the road. The shot total landed at 39-1 so kudos to the defense and to the keeper !

In my time with App St Field Hockey 🏑 we have been on both sides of this type of game. 90 minutes of non-stop pressure can make for a long night 🌙

Duke’s Marcus Stroman shows you can be a Millionaire and still put your teammates ahead of your ego…

Marcus Stroman is the ultra rare Duke University starting pitcher in the Show or at least he was until a few days ago. Stroman is on the New York Yankees this season and its been an up and down (10 wins, almost as many tough starts) so his Skipper called him into his office 🏢 to inform him that he would be heading out to the bullpen for a bit.

No rants, no instant trade demands, Marcus just headed out to the bullpen and Skipper Boone talked about his desire to do whatever is best for the team.

The Box Score above shows the results of his first outing as a reliever and you can see 👀 he earned his first save ! Sadly he helped dent the fading playoff hopes of my favorite baseball team since 1977 (Braves until then) but I’m loving ❤ that in this day and age, Stroman handled a tough beat with a great deal of Class !

Cross Country teams are just hours (and a few miles) away from competing over in Woodlawn !

Just confirmed with Coach Shawn Montgomery that his troops will indeed by heading over to Woodlawn at 3:30 to compete in the meet hosted by the Maroon Tide of Galax High School 🏫.

The only way these dedicated Student Athletes can compete any closer to 🏡 is when they host a meet at Hillsville Elementary School.

The field promises to be a large one and another solid test for the Cavaliers.

Coach Montgomery will have all of the results for us later and we look forward to seeing how the day plays out.

How tough are these competitors ?
