Welcome πŸ™ to Thursday Morning πŸŒ„ as we prepare to visit our Next Door πŸšͺ Neighbors !

There’s something special about getting together with the folks over at Floyd County High School 🏫. While its 29 miles between the two School campuses, it truly does feel like you’re just visiting your family πŸ‘ͺ when its time to play the Buffaloes.

Tonight Head Coach Cindy Edwards will travel over to Floyd for the first of two matches. FCHS picked up four early season wins by sweeping both Liberty and Pulaski County but has struggled just a bit as of late.

Carroll County enters the night πŸŒ™ at 4-4 overall, 2-1 in the Three Rivers District. The Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers are in the middle of a three match week as the team is set to head over to Gate City on Saturday afternoon for the front end of a home and home series.

Gate City will return the favor on Saturday October 5th.

Let’s get back to the Buffaloes and the unique things about why its the best rivalry that CCHS has inside of the TRD. Floyd is a beautiful little hamlet nestled inside the woods and hills that separate the two Schools. Some would say its a smaller version of Hillsville with the fact that I-77 corridor allowed The Hill to spread its wings just a bit more over the years.

Floyd County is home to a number of veteran Coaches that have been leading their teams into battle for decades and they are dominant in a number of Sports. The fact that they have their Mascot mounted on their Gym wall is pretty Cool as well.

Maybe its the fact that the other teams in the District have so little in common with Carroll County that makes it feel special ? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that folks hunt together in the woods that separate the towns.

Then again it might just be that folks like Sherry Slaughter have dual citizenship, making it fun to get together with your neighbors.

Don’t mistake the fact that both Coaches, Jason Petty and Cindy Edwards will look to defeat their opponents tonight when first serve takes place at 5:30. It’s the fact that it will feel a bit more like an after Church gathering than some of the other nights πŸŒ™.

Aza Petty will be playing her final match under the Giant Buffalo πŸƒ head tonight and if you make the trek over to watch the contest you will be in good company. While the VB team fan base isn’t massive in numbers, they make up for it with their energy and passion for the game and Love for their Kiddos.

Tonight you could stay at home and watch NFL football 🏈 or App State football on the rare Thursday night. But one should consider the option πŸ€” of heading out to see πŸ‘€ 28 young Ladies play Volleyball 🏐 against the Buffaloes.

If you brave the weather and make the drive πŸš— over you won’t be disappointed and you might even score a Tootsie Pop from Mama Petty!
