Twelve (or 13) times a year Duke University plays 🏈🏈🏈 and nothing is more Fun ! No,not a typo….

Durham – The Elon University Phoenix made the short drive πŸš— over to Wallace Wade Stadium 🏟 for tonight’s 🏑 opener for our beloved Blue Devils.

Not sure we will go 13 for 13 like last year but its a safe bet we will get to eight or nine. Duke University Football is the ultimate underdog, having qualified for just 10 Bowl πŸ₯£ games in my 60+ years.

This is why they are by far my favorite team affiliated with Duke. Tonight we host the BCS Phoenix and are flavored by 24 points over our neighbors. Fun fact about Elon is that the campus was my very first responsibility as a Newspaper πŸ“° Manager 40 years ago. Back then I was responsible for Elon College and we were the Fighting Christians ✝️.

Safe to say that was a minute or two ago. Elon is now the home 🏑 for CCHS graduate πŸŽ“ Alyssa Ervin and in a couple of months she will lace up her sneakers πŸ‘Ÿ for the first time !

Duke leads 10-0 at the break as they play under new Head Coach Manny Diaz for the very first time.

Meanwhile down at Texas A & M our former Coach is squaring off with our former QB ( Elko vs Leonard) tomorrow. College Football is still my favorite sport, even though it has changed dramatically over the past few years. Wallace Wade Stadium 🏟 is very much my Happy Place…..

The drive from Appalachian State University was a peaceful 2:30 and we are ready to play football again – Second Half Kickoff shortly (9:10)…

Actual Football thoughts – Duke struggled to run the ball against Elon, averaging less than three yards per carry.

The defense pitched a shutout until Elon kicked a field goal with 0:14 remaining in the game, recording eight sacks.

Elon declined the penalty on the only Duke penalty, leaving the Blue Devils with a Zero in the penalty yards column.

Duke had four pass plays that would have been 50 yard TD catches but the ball fell to the ground after hitting the receivers hands βœ‹. Each case it was inches from being a perfect connection.

Next Friday night πŸŒ™ (9pm Eastern) Duke (1-0) heads to ChicagoLand for a game at Northwestern

Let’s call this one the one about Corrie’s Mom, Old Habits, Penguins 🐧 and a Hard Working Athletic Director, oh and Cavalier Golf β›³

At roughly 3am I snapped out of my mid-shift nap and reverted back to an old habit that my Doctor tells me is part of my medical πŸš‘ issues.

We were scheduled to play Golf β›³ up at Hanging Rock (Salem) in an event hosted by Glenvar. With the weather forecast I wasn’t sure if we got the round in and being it was the middle of the night I couldn’t just ask someone.

The mad scramble began – Facebook, Three Rivers District, Roanoke Times and the Glenvar Twitter Page. No luck anywhere but along the way, I stumbled across a humorous post from Mrs. Delp.

For reasons similar to mine, Mrs Delp is often up in the middle of the night πŸŒ™ and today she commented on a voice asking her if Penguins 🐧 have knees ?????

Fast Forward to the drive πŸš— over to Boone for today’s Field Hockey πŸ‘ game and Field dedication, Mr. Dehaven chased down the results from the match. It turned out that it was reduced to just 9 Holes from the scheduled 18 holes but it was an official event.

Now, if someone can get back to me on that Penguin 🐧 thing, I can hold the πŸŽ€πŸŽ™πŸŽ€ with a clear head !

All 6 Cavaliers that competed broke 50 on another tough layout ! Congrats across the board !!

🏈 Cavaliers take down Grundy on an opening night πŸŒ™ that had a little bit of everything.

There was a lightning 🌩 delay, plus the Network was having technical issues throughout which kept many folks from being able to watch from home 🏑 but let it be known that the Cavaliers are 1-0 this Morning.

Allen Worrell will have a game story soon and Kristy Roten sent in a few photos πŸ“· to us. Also received a bit of help during the contest from Delilah Brady through Facebook once I realized that I wasn’t the only one asking myself why is the Network not working ?

Eight Days away from traveling over to Independence for a shot at moving to 2-0. Congratulations πŸ‘ to the Coaches and Players…

Thank You Kristy Roten and Thank You Delilah Brady for assisting !
