Carroll County Girls πŸ‘§ JV Basketball πŸ€ team cap off dream season with a thrilling 37-32 victory over Floyd County in District Championship game on The Hill !

By : Henrietta McHomerson

The Hill – Head Coach Kayla Nester and her determined squad capped off a remarkable run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Thursday night by holding off Floyd County 37-32 in the District Tourney Championship game. The victory was #18 out of 22 and gave the Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers a second title to go along with the regular season crown πŸ‘‘.

Floyd County defeated CCHS in overtime earlier in the season in Floyd but its been nothing but joy filling the Cavs lockeroom since that evening.

Kayla Young once again led the attack with a game high 21 points, including 9 of 12 from the free throw line. Natalie Burress added nine points with the highlight being a 5-0 spurt to begin the second quarter that turned a 11-9 deficit into a 14-11 lead.

The Cavaliers never looked back afterwards, coming up with the answer for any run the Buffaloes tried to make.

Thoughts from Coach Nester :

“I’m so proud to be a part of this group, and it has been a privilege to work with them throughout the season.

They have put in work, and it shows. The improvements we have made from the beginning to the end have been leaps and bounds.

This team had something to prove to themselves this year, and I believe they have accomplished that.

They can continue the culture of hard work at Carroll County. And they can make their own mark on this program.

I can’t wait to get started for next season, but for now, go have fun with the next sport. Say hey to Coach Nester for me!’

The reference to the transfer from one Coach Nester to another Coach Nester is for a number of the players that will be heading over to Cavalier Park on Monday, trading their sneakers πŸ‘Ÿ for Softball cleats.

The early season match ups with Pulaski County showed the team what they needed to work on and that’s exactly what they did.
