Lady 👩 Cavaliers go all King Midas 🤴on the visiting Bobcats, roll to a 91-23 Victory

Carroll County (19-3, 11-1 District) returned to The Hill Thursday night to close out their regular season and they did so in Grand fashion with a 91-23 victory over Three Rivers District foe Radford.

The Lady Cavaliers netted a season high 34 points in the opening eight minutes and did it in such a manner that veteran Head Coach Marc Motley had to stop and appreciate the fast start.

” We came out hot as pistols,” said Motley. “We were hitting shots from everywhere.”

Corrie Delp (13 points), Katie Lam (10 points) and Sarah Alderman (9 points, 8 steals) each contributed to the opening onslaught before Alyssa Ervin brought the curtain down on the Golden start.

The final eight points of the frame summed up the night and it began with Ervin finding Laiken Burnett on a fast break. Burnett instantly found a hard charging Delp cutting to the basket and made the pass instantly for a textbook fast break. Next possession had Ervin nail a step back 3-pointer from NBA range and then the Senior exited Stage Left by sinking another 3-pointer from just inside half court as the buzzer sounded to end the 34-6 period.

Motley switched from his starting five to the second unit at the start of the second quarter and that unit continued the effort. CCHS led 57-12 at the break.

Ervin finished the night having only played 16:24 of game minutes but she made the most of her time. Her evening ended Midway through the third quarter with 41 points to show for her efforts. Ervin now sits at 1,939 with a minimum of two (hopefully many more) games remaining seems likely to breach the 2,000 point club before her CCHS career is over.

The 91 points scored was a team effort as eight of the 10 Lady Cavaliers contributed to the total.

” We were able to score 91 points because our subs did a tremendous job out there,” Motley added. ” They were hustling, filling the passing lanes and finding the open player.”

Madison Coleman scored her seven points in a small window of the third quarter and Burnett added six points down the stretch.

Savannah Swecker (3 points) and Kaci Young (2 points) rounded out the scoring.

The Lady Cavaliers will now have one full week before the lace the sneakers back up. Next Thursday night the team will play the middle game of a triple header event as each of our District Championship Cavs will host the #2 seed in a one game District showcase.

The Regional play begins on Saturday but the Lady Cavaliers have a bye in the opening round and will host on the following Tuesday.

The Girls JV squad closed out their amazing campaign at 17-4 by defeating Radford 43-14. Kayla Young scored 16 points, followed by Raylee Goins (9 points) and Faith Clontz (8 points). The team defense pitched a second quarter shutout and twice held the Bobcats to just three points.

CCHS will host the opening game of the showcase next Thursday night.

The Hill – Carroll County pushed its total of Three Rivers District Champs 🏆 to three when the Girls Junior Varsity team clamped down on visiting Radford, 43-14. The team will now have one week off before it hosts the abrevated District Championship tournament next Thursday night.

Kayla Young once again led the offense for Head Coach Kayla Nester, scoring 16 points. The team defense pitched a second quarter shutout and twice held the Bobcats to just three points.

Young had 14 points at the break but with the team leading 26-3 she saw limited action in the second half. Raylee Goins netted nine points and Faith Clontz contributed eight as the offense continues to gain confidence in their half court offense.

Coach Nester took the time to reflect on her teams season and winning the regular season Crown 👑.

“We are regular season district CHAMPS! They have earned this one and have been working towards this for a while now. So proud of this group and all they have accomplished this season!

The last few games I’ve had a little motto for them…Don’t talk about it, but BE ABOUT IT. We can say we want to be champions and want to be successful, but none of it matters if we don’t put our words into action. We have to step out on the court and make it happen. These ladies have done just that. They play hard and want to prove themselves to everyone watching, but they mainly want to prove to themselves that they are very capable of good things in this program. We are playing well right now and I think they are proving themselves everyday they step onto the court. “

CC Mitchell continues to gain experience in the offense since her late season 📞up, adding six points in the fourth quarter.

Laynie-Jo Leonard and Kenzie McMillan finished with two points each to round out the scoring for the Cavaliers.

Carroll County returns to The Hill Friday night to face Christiansburg in the Non-District season finale. The contest will conclude another three games in three days. The team will have until next Thursday to rest up as they will be the third contest on a Triple Header District showdown.

One night after breaking the 1,000 point barrier, Bryce Smoot added 13 more to his point total. Brayden Smoot scored one basket in each of the four quarters to finish with eight points. The offense was on pace to make a run at scoring 100 points but the offense slowed down in the fourth quarter.

Isaiah Easter continued his strong play finishing with 13 points while Ethan Richardson and Cody Reece both finished up with nine points.

Now that the District schedule is complete, Coach Barnes allowed himself to take a quick glance in the rear view window.

” We really took care of the basketball with only 6 turnovers for the night. We paced 3 guys in double digits with Reitzel 24pts 8 rebounds 6 assits,Bryce with 13,and Easter with another strong night attacking the rim with 11. So proud of the guys finishing 11-1 on a tough three rivers district, shout out too my coaches Richardson, Redd, Stockner and Largen with all the unforseen hours in this phenomenal year .”

The best part of the journey is that there’s no telling when the amazing ride will come to an end.
