Little Cavaliers continue to roll their way to a shot at a District Championship game appearance !

By : Henrietta McHomerson

The Hill – Carroll County moved one step closer to a spot in the Three Rivers District championship game on Monday night, defeating visiting James River by a score of 43-22.

The team defense continues to be something to marvel about from start to finish and the offense continues to grow more confident each time they take the floor. Kayla Young scored 12 of her game high 18 points during the dominant second quarter where the Cavs outscored the Knights 17-2.

The highlight of the second quarter was one possession where the Cavaliers kept the ball in their hands for nine consecutive attempts and then stole the ball right back to create a 10 attempt moment that netted a Laynie-Jo Leonard free throw.

The team continues to hustle for the full 28 minutes and Monday night all five starters scored. Faith Clontz followed Young with seven points while Raylee Goins and CC Mitchell both added six points to the total. Natalie Burress scored all five of her points in the opening minutes of the first quarter and Leonard accounted for the final point.

Head Coach Kayla Nester took the time to share her thoughts on her teams latest effort.

“All I can say is…one more to go! One more district game to seal the deal of regular season district Champs!

These girls are motivated and driven to prove themselves. Everytime they step on the court we get better and we are understanding more and more about this game I’m passionate about. I couldn’t ask for a better group to work with.

Every challenge I give them, they step up and work toward that end goal. Learning new plays, working on ball movement around perimeter, defenses and switching them up depending on games situations… you name it and we are checking things off the list.

Of course we have room for improvement, but I like this start for the future of Carroll County Basketball. “

Thank You Coach Nester!
