β Seven days after facing James River with just seven players the Lady Cavaliers hosted the Knights in a Three Rivers District contest with a few extra weapons, leading to a 62-38 victory.
Alyssa Ervin led the offense with a game high 25 points, including 12 in the second quarter. The team ended up with a quartet of players with eight points or more and that will prove to be vital once the team reaches the post season.
βThe more players that the opponent has to game plan for, the less gadget or junk defenses they can throw at Ervin. Katie Lam added 14 points on four 3-pointers as the Senior continues her strong play in the number two scoring role.
Sarah Alderman (8 points) looked as comfortable as can be last night in regards to looking for the open shot.
Sophomore Callie Harris recently moved into the starting lineup for Head Coach Marc Motley and she had herself a ball game, much to the delight of her Coach.
” Callie Harris played her rear off for us tonight,” Motley said. ” The number of steals she had and she almost led us in rebounds.”
βHarris finished the game with a season high 12 points after nailing a fourth 3-pointer Midway through the fourth quarter on a night that the team finished with 12 made shots from deep.
Caitlin Canada played another strong game for the Knights, finishing up with a team high 21 points. Canada will be the key to the Knights post season run here in the coming weeks.
βThe entire season has been about the team gaining more and more confidence in each other and in their teammates. Last night was quite possibly the most balanced victory of the season. The lead was at 59-32 late in the fourth quarter before James River closed out the game with a mini flurry.
βThe team returns to action on Wednesday night at Patrick County in the ultra rare stand alone game against the Cougars. The JV team has played Patrick County twice and the Varsity Boys will wait until Thursday night to head over to Stuart.

The Junior Varsity Girls continued their March towards a spot in the #1-#2 District showdown, beating the Knights 43-22. Kayla Young scored 18 points, including 12 in the deciding second quarter. Carroll County outscored the Knights 17-2 over the seven minute frame to put the contest out of reach. Four other Cavaliers added at least five points as the teams offense is starting to match their smothering defense. Faith Clontz added seven points while Raylee Goins and CC Mitchell each netted six points. Natalie Burress scored her five points in the opening quarter and Laynie-Jo Leonard rounded out the scoring with one point.
