The amount of things that Greg Talley and I have in common continues to grow everytime we compare notes π.βOur Love for attaching nicknames to people, places and things has to sit near the top of the list.
βAnyone that reads my writing β knows that I call Hillsville, The Hill and David at The Carroll News is Allen Worrell’s Plucky Sidekick. Greg does the same thing with the Student Athletes he coaches onβour Carroll County High Tennis πΎ team. A nickname is designed to be an term of endearment, at least in my World π and Greg’s as well. Greg writes β in a colorful manner when he sends me his stuff during Tennis πΎ season andβhis assistance with the Boys π¦ Basketball team has been incredible.
βThe photo π· above is one Greg recreates everytime he can because of just how proud he is of this group of Basketball π players that have been playing together since the 3rd grade. The third place that our paths cross is with the Special Olympics Basketball when Mrs. Ritchie needs assistance. I need a dozen or so people like Greg, a Parent proud of his Son β a Coach that’s proud of his program with a sense of humor. The amount of ways that Greg is a part of what we are trying to do here continues to build and we Love π him for it ! Another thing that the two of us have in common is we don’t hide from our age, we lean into growing old.
Mr.T is a kind hearted soul that Loves his Children and their friends. Just like to old Saturday Night Live skit with Christopher Walken – “We need more Cowbells.” Greg Talley is our Cowbell and you will find him at the head of Table #5 on March 23rd !
Ethan Edwards and Luke Watson are two young men that are going places and tonight I have accepted an invitation from Ethan to record their Podcast with them this evening at 6pm. I was doing three Podcasts a week for years with Chris Graham of the Augusta Free Press and I truly believe it is one of the most effective ways of telling a story. The original blue print I created to turn Carroll County in to its own version of a High School ESPN wrapped itself around Podcasts. They fill commute time for people and if the tool is used correctly it can be highly effective.
βI loved the coverage that Allen Worrell gave these two back in early January and I sincerely look forward to meeting up with them later today.
βImmediately after the Podcast I will be heading over to Exit 15. At 7pm I will get the rare opportunity to have our College Baseball βΎοΈ team here in Hillsville. Skipper Lawrence Nesselrodt and I go way back (2007) in our efforts to promote the game he loves with every ounce of his being.
West Virginia Tech is now located in Beckley, West Virginia and we are opening this season with four games down in Montreat, North Carolina. This has the team driving π their four vans right through the heart of Carroll County.
At 7pm they should be pulling in and we will be feeding the team dinner π½ and capturing some photos π· to share with folks.
βAfter that it will be back to Laurel Fork to gather the information on our two Junior Varsity basketball games that will have been played over in Stuart versus Patrick County.
