Marion Harris shares a reminder about this coming Sunday !

Special Olympics

The public is invited to Hillsville Elementary gym this Sunday, January 21, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. to clap and cheer for Carroll County Special Olympics as they put on a free exhibition game (to prepare for the regional Special Olympics tournament at Virginia Tech). Doors open at 2 p.m.; opening ceremonies and introductions begin at 2:30. Each athlete will play several times and the program will finish with awards.

This is the first time the classic has been able to be held in four years; it was previously held at the middle school for a number of years, but is being held at the elementary school this year so that we can pack the gym. Backup snow date is Sunday, January 28.

One of the Coolest stories from last year involved CCHS Senior Elijah Smith. Now Mama Smith gives us a wonderful update on her Son !

For those of you that weren’t around for our initial introduction to Elijah, Smith went from having not competing in High School athletics to self teaching himself to throw the shot put and discus for Track and Field Head Coach Shawn Montgomery.

Smith advanced all the way to the State Track meet over at Liberty University. Smith would go on to compete in the Nike national meet after the school year.

We appreciate Mrs.Smith staying in touch and given us such a positive update on her Son !

Here is a photo πŸ“· of Elijah as well as fellow Track star, Corrie Delp, being honored at Cavalier Park prior to their trip to Lynchburg.
