Varsity Boys πŸ‘¦ Basketball πŸ€ insight with Coach Barnes and yours truly offering some insight.

Our Main Man πŸ‘¨, Allen Worrell was in the Gymnasium tonight so as we do when Allen is working on what we call a “Gamer ” or a Game Story, I just create a Column form of coverage so that it compliments the coverage Allen is creating.

Carroll County bested Radford for the second time this season Thursday night on The Hill, 62-54. The most exciting thing about victory #2 is that the Cavaliers get credit for this one in the District Standings !

The first victory was part of the Fort Chiswell tournamen, therefore not a league contest. The two teams will meet for a third time with the final one being played in the Bobcats gym.

The Word of the Night πŸŒ™ for the Cavaliers is COMPOSURE. The amount of obstacles the team was facing was endless and we will let Coach Barnes chime in on that list.

I thought tonight we didn’t look as Chrisp and as well oil as usual, mind you out of gym 5 days, two canceled games and I 2 practices slowed us up, but we with stood the storm. “

Let’s add a couple of more items to that list. Alleghany was caught off guard πŸ’‚β€β™‚οΈ the first time we played them and played a much different game the second time around, earning a split with the Cavs.

Radford had no answer for the Cavaliers offense or defense last month up at Fort Chiswell. Tonight was their second round and they brought their A Game to The Hill.

The most impressive thing about how Carroll County played against the Bobcats was the complete control of their emotions during a highly competitive and physical contest from start to finish. When you add in the noise in the building to the other elements it makes the teams composure POP.

There will be an entire post πŸ“« of all the photos πŸ“· and video πŸ“Ή from Greg Talley coming shortly!!!

Let’s check βœ” in with Coach Barnes one more time –

” We struggled around the arch, shot well overall from floor, got solid min from Reece and well rounded game from Talley. Davis under the weather had a quite 19, but the 9 rebounds are bigger. Hats off to Easter working his tail off on Woodward (#22) It was not pretty but a win is a win. We will take it and keep working.”

 Thanks Coach !

The schedule πŸ“… for the remainder of the regular season will need to get creative to say the least. That’s starts with Friday night πŸŒ™ as the Cavaliers try to sneak in one of the Non-District games with Galax.

The unofficial count of games that need to be rescheduled for the Boys include @ Patrick County, Galax and Fort Chiswell. The call on playing tomorrow night πŸŒ™ will be made once the aftermath of tonight’s weather has been measured.

At the College level the Basketball πŸ€ victories are measured by strength πŸ’ͺ of the opponent. Here’s what I can tell you about the quality of this victory – for the Second time inside of a month the Cavaliers defeated a team that the current Coaching Staff had never beaten. The Three Rivers District will be a three horse 🐎 race with Carroll County,, Radford and Alleghany so the fact that we are now 3-1 against those teams cannot be discounted.

You can pick your favorite part of the night πŸŒ™ and just see the Composure that was on display – Reitzel going four of four from the free throw line down the stretch or possibly the give and go play where Easter threaded a pass to a cutting Ethan Richardson for a back door πŸšͺ lay-up late in the fourth quarter.

Talley and his nine first half points or Bryce Smoot patiently awaiting his opportunity and then scoring eight of his 12 points in what felt like 90 seconds of the third quarter.

Each starter scored a minimum of seven points and we can’t forget to mention that both Cody Reece and Brayden Smoot contributed mightily when their numbers were called.

Our Student Athletes were up to the challenge πŸ’ͺ tonight and there was plenty of it in the building.

Please enjoy Allen’s gamer and I will get started on Greg’s post πŸ“« after I take care of some Washington Post work with my Night Crew.

Mrs. Shannon Dalton keeps us in the know about our πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ teams!

THANK YOU KIND LADY !!!

Looking forward to seeing the Photos πŸ“· later. Godspeed on your journey 🏑!

What makes the update so priceless to me is that EVERY Cavalier that competed tonight gets acknowledged!!!!!!

Next Stop βœ‹ – Head Coach Jason Stockner takes us inside the Boys πŸ‘¦ Junior Varsity game tonight.

Thank You to Samantha Reed for holding the score book πŸ“– πŸ™ up so we could compare notes πŸ“ with ours.

Jason’s take on how his team performed and the flow of the contest.

” I thought we fought hard to battle back and cut it their lead to two late in the first quarter. However their size inside and their quickness outside was too much to overcome tonight. We just had too many turnovers and gave up too many offensive rebounds. We are looking to bounce back quickly with a game vs Galax tomorrow night.”

 Thank You Coach !

There’s more coverage from tonight’s game in the running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ blog from earlier tonight.

Jason also offered up a look see at his team picture πŸ“· for the Season, which you can clearly see πŸ‘€ is upside down. Not a problem if you are looking on your phone or tablet but could get tricky if its on your computer. We will try that one again when the opportunity presents itself.

I want to personally Thank Jason for taking his time as we move forward πŸ™ in trying hard to provide coverage for each of the Junior Varsity teams. I am flying solo on my mission to try and treat them as equals so most of the Junior Varsity Coaches are normally hounded by people trying to acknowledge their teams, win or lose, so Thank You Jason for getting involved !

Now, our Test Ballon for the Winter months – Introducing #24, Cody Aiden Reece

Cody is a Junior on the Varsity Basketball πŸ€ team. We took a few minutes to get the storyline behind this impressive πŸ‘ young Man πŸ‘¨.

 Cody Aiden Reece

#24

Hillsville, Virginia

Parents – Jennifer & Ricky Reece

Dream Schoolβ€‚πŸ« to play College Basketball for – University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill

Favorite part about being a member of the Boys πŸ‘¦ Basketball πŸ€ program:

A chance to play High School basketball, something that isn’t afforded to everyone. The opportunity to both play with and cheer on my friends and teammates.

Next up – we invited Cody to choose three of his teammates to offer one sentence on their favorite reason for loving ❀ their teammate.

Cody chose Ethan Richardson, Jay Burnette and Isaiah Easter to speak on his behalf…

Ethan – He always has fun and keeps it light for our team.

Jay – Cody is a great supporter for our Ball team.

Isaiah – Cody always calms our nerves and brings the energy.

Next up – We asked all four members of the Coaching Staff to do the same :

Head Coach Anthony Barnes – The style of play I like is a physical style and Cody brings that to my team.

Assistant Kris Richardson – Everyone likes him, a bit of a jokester off the court and when he’s on the floor he does all of the dirty work for us.

Assistant Jason Stockner – I love his energy and his willingness to do what ever we ask of him.

Assistant Ryan Largen – Cody has a Dog πŸ• mentality. He plays physical, just goes out there and gets it done.

The goal was at the beginning of the season to do this for each member of all seven teams and turn it into a playing (bubble gum style ) card for them to keep after their High School career is over.

Why choose Cody Reece as the example for an idea that just kept getting further delayed? Because Cody is all of those things that his Coaches and teammates speak of him. ” Lunch Pale ” is the example for Cody, just puts on a Hard Hat and gets the job done.

Aaron Sorkin has taught me one thing over the years – choose to use your Words for Good !!!

Ladies and Gentlemen – I present to you, Cody Aiden Reece…..
