With Liberty University vs New Mexico State 4th quarter as a backdrop let’s look inside the Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers victory tonight

Carroll County 63, Pulaski County 47 was your final score. In the previous post we took a look at the simply Amazing stats put up by Alyssa Ervin and we know that Allen Worrell will have a gamer in the Carroll News so let’s just have a closer look at the keys πŸ”‘ to the victory tonight and just how important it will be all season long.

Kudos to Miss Ervin on her triple double of 31-12-13 but there were others that did exactly what Coach Motley needed them to do.

Katie Lam – 12 points (3 Three pointers). One of the most important parts to the offensive puzzle is Lam being a serious threat from long distance. Pulaski doubled her most of the first half and kept her scoreless. Coming out of the break Lam connected three times, 2 from deep to put up 8 quick points before adding four more points in the final quarter.

In the preview post earlier today I mentioned that getting quality minutes from Casey Young would be a tremendous boost. Young delivered in a big way, grabbing rebounds and adding four second quarter points. Young giving Madison Lyons breaks throughout is crucial and there were times where our veteran Coach had both of his Bigs on the court at the same time.

Sarah Alderman – this Young Lady πŸ‘© performed her role beautifully. Alderman needs to play smart and be willing to take her shot when it presents itself. This plus her impressive defensive skills makes her a vital part of the machine. Her seven points scored does little to show just how important her play was.

The largest University in our Great Country (when you include online students) has pushed its record to 13-0! Now the focus can be on Washington – Oregon…

Madison Lyons also posted 7 points but the thing that really stood out to me was the give and go routine that her and Ervin were able to get going in the fourth quarter. Lyons needs to play BIG and if Young continues to grow it will allow Lyons to crash the boards more aggressively without being overly concerned about foul trouble.

With the four returning players in place the question was who will step up to be the fifth starter and the answer was super Soph Corrie Delp. Delp is our resident track star but stepping in to the starting five in her first Varsity game was a tall task. Delp will be a bonus on defense with her speed and energy. Delp scored an early bucket to help calm her nerves and confidence in her shot will come in time.

Callie Harris -played in spurts at guard opposite Ervin and once again we are talking about a Sophomore playing her initial Varsity game. Harris will spell Delp and play smart defense while also reliving Ervin of having to handle the basketball πŸ€.

_______________________

Next up was another Sophomore that has enough talent and smarts to play three Varsity sports. Laiken Burnett will continue to gain confidence when she earns more playing time and her spot on the floor.

8 of our 12 players saw action tonight and six scored at least one basket.

Bayliegh Allen, Savannah Swecker , Madison Coleman and Amie Delp are also on the roster but didn’t see action tonight against Pulaski County.

Watching πŸ‘€ Alyssa Ervin play basketball πŸ€ is just fun. Ice 🧊 Packs and Ibeprofen will need to be available post game this year. Sadly Pulaski County will not be the last team to play Carroll County in the manner they were played tonight. Fortunately Ervin is tough, both physically and mentally but its still tough to see a player end up on the floor the number of times she did tonight. The Cougars were State Runner Up in Class 4 last season and play smart basketball πŸ€. We defeated a talented team tonight and will get back at it tomorrow night (5pm) over in Martinsville vs. Carlisle in the first edition of what I like to call Saturday with Coach Motley!

Tomorrow nights coverage will be a very traditional Game Story so that folks can read about their efforts.

The enjoyable part of covering the Flagship program of Carroll County is that Coach Motley doesn’t need the attention the way that other programs do. The same can be said for Miss Ervin but the two of them remind me of Coach Geno and Stewie during their four year run up at UConn.

I will do my best to cover the team, knowing that when Allen Worrell is in the Gymnasium the game will get covered and I can just have some fun.

Schedule πŸ“… note πŸ“ from Darren Mathews – the games with Honaker have been flipped with the hopes of having the Ring Ceremony πŸ’ on December 18th.

Fifteen years as a resident of state of Washington gives me a shot at a second 13-0 team in the matter of 90 minutes. But Oregon won’t go away quietly. Three point game with 2:00 minutes to play!

While there’s joy in the Victory for UW its equally sad to know that it will be the final Pac-12 football game EVER.

Closing Note πŸ“:

Carroll County finished 15-29 from the free throw line. There was plenty of wiggle room tonight but pretty sure that Coach will have them working on that.

Have a Blessed Night πŸŒ™!
