Game recognizing Game Tuesday Night πŸŒ™ as Senior Elijah Smith and Freshman Corrie Delp to throw out Ceremonial First Pitch ahead of Lady Cavaliers Softball Semi-final Game

Carroll County is set to host Northside at 6pm Tuesday night with an invitation to the State Tournament on the line and before the game gets underway they will honor the two individuals that have already earned a trip to their State meet.

Friday afternoon Corrie Delp will race in the 100 Meters Trials with the hope of earning a spot in the finals on Saturday. Delp will then compete in the Long Jump on Saturday morning at 9:30.

Elijah Smith will finish out his High School career on Saturday morning when the recently graduated Discus standout competes at Liberty University in Lynchburg.

There’s room at the ceremony for two more Cavalier Student Athletes as Tennis 🎾 players Jabin Talley and Ethan Richardson have their Regional Semi-final match on Tuesday Morning at Virginia Tech. If the duo advance to the Finals and win that match as well they will earn a trip to their State Tournament as well.

The 2022-2023 Sports season is winding down but its not over until the final Cavalier has removed their jersey / uniform for the last time. Two individuals, one duo and a Softball team still look to make their School 🏫 and Parents proud !

Alan Worrell will have a busy Monday morning πŸŒ„ as his Inbox πŸ“₯ is stuffed with Cavalier updates !

Saturday has become Sunday and the writing ✍ has finally over, as far as the Carroll News goes.

There is a story and pics of the Friday night πŸŒ™ Softball victory.

Marion Harris took the time to share his knowledge of the stacked field of 8 heading into yesterday.

Naturally he refrained from picking a winner in the game involving our Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers but its worth noting that he correctly identified the winners in the other three matches, including the upset of #5 over #4.

Looking at the final score of the #1-#8 game let’s you know just how deep of a field it is.

#1 – Magna Vista 3, #8 Staunton River 2

#2 – Lord Botetourt 3. #7 Christiansburg 0

#3 – William Byrd 4, #6 Carroll County 0

#5 – Hidden Valley 1, #4 Abingdon 0

Have to say this is the most competitive region around from top to bottom in any sport!!!

1st matchup is the 1vs8
This is a matchup that Magna Vista won 3-0 on the very 1st game of the year!!! So they have seen each other play and I am sure both team have improved since that day. Magna vista comes in with scoring 114 goals and giving up only 6. SR has scored 40 goals and has given up 18 goals. This will be played at the smith river sports complex where Magna Vista has outscored their opponents 76-0. Actually your very own Lady Cavs is the only team to score on Magna Vista at smith river. My prediction in this game will be magna vista 4-0 over Stanton River.

2nd match will be #2 vs #7
Number 7 Christiansburg beat number 10 cave springs in OT to get to the qtr finals matchup against LB. Cburg on paper is definitely the underdog in this matchup. The two teams had two common opponents and both had the same results against those team. LB has outscored their opponents 61- 19 so that leads me to my prediction of LB winning 3-1 over cburg.

3rd matchup is your very own Carroll County Lady Cavs vs William Bryd!!! This matchup is between two of the best defensive teams in the region. Only magna vista has allowed less goals than these two teams. Carroll has set some school records this year one being the least amount of goals allowed in a season. No common regular season opponents and the last time these two teams faced off was back in the 2016 season where Bryd won 5-1. Cool story in this game is there will be three players from this coming fall Emory and Henry team will be involved in this game, Bryd has two players going to Emory and Henry next year and Carroll County Assist Coach Adrienne Harris. If this game stays low scoring I could see an upset in this one. I will just let this one play out and not do a prediction!!

4th and final game for the qtr round matchups will be the 4v5 seeds. Abingdon will host Hidden Valley at The Meadows Sports complex. On paper this one would look to be a win for Abingdon considering they have scored 66 goals and HV has only scored 27, then you look at their strength of schedules. Hidden Valley plays in one of the best districts in the state of Virginia and Abingdon’s district well not anywhere as good as the River Ridge!!! Hidden Valley is the only one of the top six seeds that does not have double digit wins. Hidden Valley gave Powerhouse Blacksburg their only lose of the season!!! Hidden Valley is my dark horse of this tournament!! My prediction is HV 4-0!!
