Not that it helps Sydney Nester and Marshall now but take a look at Sun Belt Softball 7 days after the Thundering Herd fell 1-0 in the Championship game

Louisiana claimed the Sun Belt Championship 7 days ago by the slimmest of margins, besting our Carroll County High alum and her team 1-0. Marshall came into the 3 day event being told if you want an invite to the Dance πŸ’ƒ you better run the table.

Marshall took care of business in the first two but fell in the title game to finish up at 45-10. The Sun Belt was limited to just 2 bids while it seemed like the entire Southeastern Conference was invited.

Louisiana was hoping by winning the league tournament they would be one of the 16 Schools to host a Regional but they too were dismissed a bit as they were sent to play at #10 seeded Louisiana State which meant they fell to the #23 spot in the field.

The gap between hoping you make the Top 16 and coming in at 23 is a pretty large descepency. The only upside of the placement was the short trek to Baton Rouge.

On Sunday afternoon the Cajuns struck a blow for the Sun Belt and all of its teams by taking a pair of thrilling games from the Tigers πŸ…. Louisiana will now travel out to Seattle to face the #7 seeded University of Washington Huskies.

It also means that both the Sun Belt and Mountain West (San Diego State) will send the same number of teams as the Big Ten.

The shocking upsets that #2 UCLA suffered in its first two games at home 🏑 didn’t prevent the Pac 12 from being the only league to claim four of the 16 spots in the Super Regionals this coming weekend.

The ACC, SEC and the Big 12 each will have three teams hoping to make the trip out to Oklahoma City next month.

Regional week begins on Wednesday night πŸŒ™ and here’s what we are looking at heading in…..

Spring began with 11 teams and now we have finished the three JV seasons (with two District Championships) its time to look ahead to what’s next for our teams.

Boys πŸ‘¦ Tennis 🎾 did not qualify as a team but will be sending two very talented players to Virginia Tech on Friday. Jabin Talley went 11-1 as the number one singles player and also played number one doubles with Ethan Richardson. The duo also went 11-1 and are awaiting Seeds in the individual side of the competition. Coach Talley will be our guide throughout their run!

Softball is awaiting the official release of the seeds but is believed to have earned a Top 2 spot and they will open at home on Friday after the play in games begin on Wednesday. They should remain at home for the Semi-final next week if they handle business on Friday

Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer ⚽️ finished up a remarkable regular season and in most Regions would be a Top Four seed that would open with a home match but they figure to be on the road, landing in the #5-#7 range. Play in games also begin on Wednesday and we know that Marion Harris will keep us all up to date in regards to the Soccer pitch.

Track & Field will be getting underway for both the Boys and the Girls with a number of Cavaliers set to compete at the State meet, having already posted State Qualifying times.

Varsity Baseball ⚾️ will be right in the area of either opening on the road or possibly hosting a play-in game and we are looking forward to Coach DeHaven keeping us in the know as his team moves forward !

Boys πŸ‘¦ Soccer ⚽️ will be in a similar position as the Baseball team as both squads are competing in a 10 ream field being invited from the 12 team group.

The two play in games are 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9, with the two winners advancing to create the quarter-finals. The Top four teams will host the four remaining squads.

1 hosts 8/9

2 hosts 7/10

3 hosts 6

4 hosts 5

The formula used for the seeds is always a Hot πŸ”₯ Topic this time of year as many believe that they have cracked the code while others question that the code is real. I fall into Category #3 – wait until someone smarter tells me what is happening and then share it with the masses.

I do know for sure that I will be at Cavalier Park on Friday night running our Lady Cavaliers out to their position ahead of the National Anthem and hopefully doing the same for two more games.

With the assistance of Greg Talley, Kevin DeHaven and Marion Harris our goal will be there until the last ball has been kicked, thrown or hit with a racket and the final track event has reached its conclusion.

Anyone else out there that wants to partake in a Positive way the comings and goings of our Cavaliers over the final three weeks just drops us a line !
