The last scheduled game for the Lady Cavaliers Soccer Team vs Glenvar took place tonight in Salem. The first 28 minutes both teams had their chances but the score stayed 0-0. Glenvar is the defending 2A state Champion and is the only team to beat the Cavs by more than one goal. In the 28th minute of the match Glenvar took a 1-0 lead when a corner kick was cleared from a cavalier defender and went off a Glenvar striker to reach the back of the net. 3 minutes later Ryan Harris scored off a high arching shot that beat the cavalier Keeper for 2-0 lead.
In the 37th minute Callie Harris found her sister Natalie on a great through ball after Glenvar was playing a very high line and the pass allowed her to get behind the line and have a one on one with the Glenvar keeper. Natalie beat the keeper and helped the Cavaliers to pull within one right before halftime. The 2nd half was a totally different than the first half or at least on the scoreboard it was. Glenvar scored three goals in the 2nd half but the game was so much closer than the final 5-1 score showed!!!
The Cavaliers gave up another own goal and another goal saw the Cavalier keeper and a Glenvar striker collide and the ball got through for a goal. We played a great game but the bounces just did not go our way. Even with this loss the Cavaliers finished the season with the best winning percentage in program history. With a record of 10-3-1 the cavaliers will be waiting on a game that should be a forfeit to play out but at the current standing we are in the 6th place by only .15 point from 5th place. If we stay in the 6th spot we will play LB but if the forfeit comes through the Cavaliers will move to the 5th place match and play Abingdon. Either way this is the highest seed the cavaliers have earned since moving to 3A. Stay tuned for the final standings for regional play.
