Marshall fell short in the Sun Belt Softball Championship game 1-0 to Louisiana down in Lafayette on Saturday meaning that the team would need the NCAA tournament committee to offer a rare at-large bid to the Mid-Major conference on Sunday.
That prayer π was answered but instead of it going to the #2 seed and tournament runner-up Thundering Herd that rare bid went to fifth seeded Texas State.
45-10 was the final record for Marshall University but the strength of schedule was the reason pointed to be the culprit. A late season victory over Virginia Tech and a near miss vs Top Five Alabama was hoped to be helpful to the S.O.S rating but that sadly wasn’t the case for the Thundering Herd.
