Back from the cusp of extinction – North Wilkesboro Race 🏁 Track about to host a week long party πŸ₯³ (May 16-May 21)

Jeff Gordon won πŸ† a race at the birthplace of Nascar back in 1996 and then the doors were closed at the race track located roughly 1 hour from Carroll County.

Nascar was booming in a manner that few saw coming and the group of original tracks were in jeopardy of vanishing from the schedule, to be replaced by the likes of Kansas, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, Michigan and Las Vegas. There was simply too much money to be made from ticket sales and merchandise to keep true to the roots and history.

Darlington, South Carolina made the cut βœ‚οΈ by the slimmest of margins but Rockingham and North Wilkesboro weren’t as fortunate. Over the next three decades the folks in Wilkes County have tried to reopen the track for business but couldn’t get the traction (racing term) to bring the track back to the point of relavence.

The latest effort reached the Finish Line (racing term) and then some. Beginning this coming Tuesday and running through Sunday, North Wilkesboro will be open for business at the highest level!

The grand finally will be the Nascar All-Star race on Sunday but there will be plenty of action taking place all six days. The Truck series will take center stage on Saturday and Tuesday night will have Late Model events under the lights.

The saddest part of the tracks fall from grace was just how far down it slid over the years. This track is the true Ground Zero for the sport and should remain a proud part of its history forever.

Starting Tuesday it will be officially back on the Big Stage as it should be. How many signs are there in America where its being announced that this place is where someone famous was born ?

Yes, Nascar is all grown up now but they need to remember just where they came from.
