Six different Lady π© Cavaliers scored at least one run in support of Addie Greene’s latest master piece as Carroll County JV improved to 11-3 on the season.
James River sent 20 batters to the plate, 5 over the minimum but Greene made sure that none of them crossed home plate. The Knights loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fourth on a pair of walks and a fielders choice but the Cavaliers defense turned a double play before Greene ended the rally with one of her nine strikeouts.
The lead was just 4-0 after three innings before CCHS plated five more in the home half of the fourth inning and then closed it out with the 10th run in the fifth inning.
The offense collected 14 hits in addition to 1 walk, 1 HBP and 2 more reached on an error. Natalie Burress went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and Greene aided her own cause by going 3 for 4 on a night π where all nine Cavaliers recorded at least one base hit.
Alexis Dalton’s team showed very little rust after not getting to play versus the last three opponents the Varsity played. They will look to continue their winning ways Monday night at Pulaski County.

Entering tonight’s game the Lady Cavalier Soccer Team was looking to extend their winning streak to three, standing in their way was James River. The Knights was one of the cavaliers two losses on the season so tonight was going to be another great battle. A couple weeks ago James river defended their home field with a goal in the 79th minute to win 1-0. Tonight was the Lady Cavaliers turn to defend the Hill!!!! It did not take the Lady Cavs long to put one on the board when the two captains linked up with a give and go pass that finished with a goal for Senior Natalie Harris. It was a great work of art from Harris to Newman to Harris. The cavaliers after just 4 mins took a 1-0 lead but it only took 12 mins for James River to tie the game up after one of their player placed a very nice high arching shot over the cavalier keeper and right below the crossbar to make it 1-1.
The rest of the 1st half was back in forth with both teams having chances but the keepers kept coming up with saves to keep the other team out of the goal. 1st half ended at 1-1 to set up an exciting 40 mins to decide a winner. The 1st 10 mins was almost all James River but Freshman Goalkeeper Alexis Sheffey had a brilliant 2nd half to finish the game with over 10 saves. The next 15 mins was back and forth and then the Cavaliers got their 2nd wind for the last 15 mins. At the 70 th minute mark the Cavaliers took the lead for good when Karmen Smith found Ashlyn Newman and she moved through a couple defenders for a 1 on 1 opportunity with the James river keeper and she finished that to give the home team the first ever win versus James river at Tommy Thompson Stadium!!!! This improves the girls to 7-2-1 on the season. Next week they play 3 straight games to start the week with
Allegheny at home on Monday, Tuesday at Honaker, and Wednesday at home for senior night against Galax all game’s starting at 6 pm.
