Kevin Bocock at the plate.

EAST BANK – There was a different type of delay this afternoon at West Virginia Tech…

WVT was set to begin their Mid-South Conference double-header with visiting Pikeville College at 12:00 noon but the first pitch wasn’t thrown until 1:44 after the visiting Bears had trouble finding the park at Douglas M. Epling Field. The field is located at East Bank Middle School which is about 9 miles north of the campus in Montgomery.

WVT Skipper Lawrence Nesselrodt kept a sense of humor about the situation despite a long list of postponements and delays that have haunted the Golden Bears this spring.

“It all started one day when we had an umpire with the name Charlie Brown,” Ness said. ” Our team has been under a black cloud ever since that game.”

Thursday Softball : Strasburg Rams-1 @ Page County Panthers-5

Lets start out by stating the obvious – the wind is a howling !SHENANDOAH – The visiting Strasburg Rams (0-1) have arrived and both squads are warming up in less than ideal conditions but with smiles on their faces. First pitch is set for 5:00 P.M. as the home standing Lady Panthers look to improve their record to 3-0 after rallying for a 2-1 victory yesterday over William Monroe.

The Lady Dragons carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning before PCHS plated one run in the sixth and won the game when Danni Short drove in pinch runner Kori Jenkins with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. For Head Coach Alan Knight it was a scene out of Groundhog Day as his team captured their home opener by the same score with a walk off run in the final frame.

Details on today’s game to follow…
