Nick Cushman and his dedicated group of young Lady Cavaliers are set to play Ball at Cavalier Park on Thursday evening, and we couldn’t be happier to put their efforts under the spotlight !

From the start of the Middle School 🏫 Softball season, I have been trying hard to coordinate with Travis Osborne and Nick Cushman on the possibility of bringing my portable system over to the ball field so their team could receive the full treatment that comes with having their game announced.

This Thursday was blocked 🚫 off on the calendar πŸ“… to do this, and I was truly excited about it. A funny thing happened along the way, I just found out that the game has been moved over to our Cavalier Park ! There is no need to pack up the gear and tote it over to the field.

Since coach Nick took over the CCMS program, our paths have only crossed briefly twice, but there is a long list of people that I respect who love to sing the praises of his efforts !

Varsity Softball Coach Rick Nester, Mr. Kevin Burress and Travis Osborne to start the list. The condition of the field has improved dramatically, and the ability to teach the game to the youngest of our Lady Cavaliers are the two things highlighted in the conversations.

I’m 1000% convinced to succeed at the high school level. In any sport, you have to have a feeder system in place. We have that with Nick Cushman and Deana Burcham !

The goal was to head over to the middle school and give these dedicated young people a small sample of what it sounds like to play softball at Cavalier Park. The beauty of it now is that the younger Lady Cavaliers will get the full effect !

Thursday night at 6 pm is my understanding !

Thank you to Coach Cushman and Coach Burcham for everything you do for our Softball program !

Tonight at Tommy Thompson Field, we will honor the memories created by the late Gustavo Munoz. We lost this young man way too early last fall, and Forrest Johnson looks to embrace the family one more time with a tribute.

I never had the privilege of meeting Gustavo Munoz as his time on The Hill preceeded ours, but anyone who has a story about this young man leads with his ability to light up a room with his presence.

Β  I am honored to be the one who will be holding the 🎀 tonight when we have the ceremony between the Junior Varsity and Varsity matches. This is why I’m up at 4am trying hard to absorb as much information about the young man as possible. Even though the ceremony will be brief in length, it simply has to be heartfelt.

From the Soccer standpoint, Gustavo Munoz was finishing up his career as a young Forrest Johnson was beginning his as the head coach of the Carroll County High School Boys team. To say that Gustavo left his mark on Forrest would be an understatement.

Alexia and Sophia are in the photo above with Gustavo, his bride and daughter. Everything that I have found this morning describes a stand-up young man who was loved and appreciated by his family members and friends. A loving husband, a loving Father, and someone who people could depend on.

Losing someone is always difficult, but losing someone who was just six years out of high school just compounds the loss and heartbreak.

Tonight, we will take a few minutes and set them aside to pay homage to the life of a young man who left an imprint on so many people who crossed paths with him.

Wednesday is here, and it’s going to be a Busy, Busy day as we say, Hello to April 2026. Here’s our initial April Morning πŸŒ„ Brew !

Last but not least….

7 contests all told

I’m not sure who the credit goes to for the graphic design, but thank you to Aaliyah Hampton for sending it in !

Soccer 4, Softball 2, and Tennis 🎾 1 is the breakdown. Four at home 🏑 on The Hill and three on the road.

Howard Mayo with his Motovational Nugget for the Day :
Travis Osborne and his Bible Verse of the Day :

Matthew 20:28Β Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Today will require a number of gears βš™οΈ as it starts with a medical appointment for Lin in the early afternoon, then it’s off to Cavalier Park and finishing up at Tommy Thompson Field.

Quick note πŸ“ for the folks that have stumbled upon our efforts. The goal here is to create a sense of pride in our youth and their families as they represent Carroll County High School both on and off the field or stage.

Two things that are a must – its has to be 100% positive and as balanced as humanly possible.

The goal has always been to create a safe place where someone like Bill Gallimore, for example, can wake ⏰️ up, go to one site and read about everything going on today and as much as I can gather from the day before. No advertising, no criminal reports, and no bullying to be found.

Two terms that I use ALOT are The Hill and the Boulevard. The Boulevard is the stretch of US-58 Business that runs in front of the school and separates tennis 🎾 and Softball from the rest of the campus.

The Hill is a term designed to give our students a sense of pride, and the other examples are all around us. Florida has the Swamp, App State has the Rock, Duke has Bull City, Stanford University has The Farm 🚜 more locally, Fort Chiswell defends the Fort, and Radford has the Bobcat Den.

Lastly, the use of emojis is to make sure that I always keep things light because this is designed to be fun and supportive. The other thing folks should notice is that you won’t find my name anywhere on my site of 18 years because this is not about me.

God has blessed πŸ™Œ us throughout life πŸ™ and it’s my mission to use my skill sets ( announcing and writing ✍️ with kindness ) as often as I can.

Everything here is free of charge and will always be. This is year six of our efforts in Carroll County, and now you know what is rattling around inside of my brain 🧠.

Seven days a week, Travis Osborne sends in his Bible Verse of the Day, and five days a week, Howard Mayo checks βœ”οΈ in with his Motovational Nugget.

Equality and support….

Have yourself a Blessed Day πŸ™ŒπŸ˜‡

Almost forgot, I am closing in on 1,000 straight days of closing kindness !
