Dublin – Head Coach Rick Nester spent the off-season working on having his team be more aggressive at the plate, and you can put a check in that box as Carroll County High School scored nine runs against a talented Pulaski County team on Friday in their 17-9 setback against the Cougars.
PCHS fans have seen this group of Seniors ( 8 out of their 10 players) wreak havoc against their opponents across their four year playing careers. Friday was no different as the home team deposited five home runs over the fence, allowing them to fend off a scrappy effort from the Lady Cavaliers.
Addie Greene spearheaded the offensive attack for CCHS as the Junior collected four of the teams 11 base hits. Emma Harman joined Greene in the multi hit club with two and five Cavaliers added one apiece in the season opener.
” We put the ball in play from start to finish,” said Head Coach Rick Nester. ” We played well in the field , just ran into a team that hits it hard and often.”
Raylee Goins finished with a team high three RBI, and Brooke Webb drove in a pair of runs as well. Greene and Madison Coleman both helped a teammate find home plate with the other two runs scoring on a one of four PCHS errors.
Carroll County plated three runs in the first and third innings to take leads, but each time, the home team answered with a Crooked Number of their own.
One member of the team will have a memory as freshman pitcher Ava Beamer was supposed to start for Head Coach Terry Warf and the Junior Varsity but needed to be moved up due to an injury precaution. The youngster pitched the sixth inning for Nester in relief of Harman and Greene.
” I think that Ava was a little bit nervous about going out there,” added Nester. ” But once the inning started, she was able to get us three outs.”
Pulaski County won the Junior Varsity game 13 – 3, with that game being played around the corner from the high school. Warf and Company have a busy, busy week ahead of them as they are slated to play four home gamgames at Cavalier Park. The stretch begins with a double header versus Tazewell on Monday afternoon at 5pm.
Carroll County Middle School 🏫 Softball truly hit the ground running with a 14-0 victory over visiting Fort Chiswell.
Varsity Softball returns to action 🎬 on Wednesday at Fort Chiswell High School, and then it’s back to The Hill on Friday for the home opener against Pulaski County.
” It’s a quick turnaround in regards to playing Pulaski County again,” noted Nester. ” But hopefully, the timely hitting will go our way next time.”
