Glenvar – Carroll County needed all 32 minutes to finally pull away from Glenvar Tuesday night as the Lady Cavaliers edged the Highlanders 42-37.

Laynie-Jo Leonard hit the ground running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ for Head Coach Howard Mayo as the Junior guard scored the first five points for Carroll County. Carolyn Mitchell drained a 3 – pointer late in the first period to puts the Lady Cavaliers up 12-4 but Glenvar answered back with a 7-0 run to make it 12-11.

Glenvar would take its first lead of the game at 18 -17 and the teams headed into the lockeroom tied at 19-19. Raylee Goins accounted for five of the seven points CCHS scored in the second quarter.

Mayo saw a third player score five points in a quarter and this time it was Kenzie Young. Carroll County captured the quarter 13-8 and the Cavaliers played enough defense down the stretch to sneak out with a hard fought victory.

Mitchell took the five point per quarter baton and hers came after Glenvar pulled even at 33 – 33.

” I thought we had a strong finish to the game we where able to limit their two leading scorers to 9 points,” said Mayo. ”  Every player scored. In the third quarter when we made multipleΒ  passes and found a open petson. We where able to extend the lead. We did a good job at the end of the game running our delay game and working on burning large chunks of time. We then made some very good defensive plays. Hopefully we will continue to get better as the season plays out.”
