Carroll County High School scored 15 points in the third quarter Monday night against Cave Spring and appeared on its way to a third victory of the season before the free throw line decided the outcome in favor of the visitors..
The Lady Cavaliers rallied back to tie the game at both 40 and 42 before Cave Spring closed out the contest with a 9-2 run to claim the non-district victory, 51-44. Bree Campbell – Zendejas calmly sank both free throws to make it 40-40 with 3:22 left in the contest. Callie Harris connected on a floater with 2:20 on the clock to tie it again but that would be the final time on the night.
” Our team continues to play hard and make improvements we just aren’t able to get over the hump, ” said Head Coach Howard Mayo. ” We went 8-23 from the free throws line and had 7 more turnovers then our opponent, if we will cut down those mistakes we will get over the hump.”
Carroll County led 35 – 27 after three quarters before allowing the Knights to pull away with a 24-9 final eight minutes. The team has been averaging in the mid forties all season and the 15-10 explosion in the third quarter set up a possible victory for the Lady Cavaliers.

Cave Spring was able to pull awa down the stretch by making 7 of 10 from the free throw line. As is the case in many a late game, Carroll County was forced to foul late in hopes of extending the contest.
The Lady Cavaliers (2-6) will have a very quick turnaround as they will head across the County Line later today for a Three Rivers District contest at Floyd.

While the pics I have were taken off the computer π₯ and not going to be Awesome, I still want to show appreciation for the third team on display last night…
