The Hill – Carroll County JV Girls Basketball improved to 7-1 on the season Monday night with a thrilling 35 – 34 victory over the Knights of Cave Spring.
Playing for the first time without leading scorer, Kate Holderfield, Head Coach Hailey Cushman and her Lady Cavaliers were going to have to play with the mindset of next Man Up and the team did just that. Holderfield is recovering from an ankle injury suffered late versus Pulaski County.
” The girls stepped up in a big way today. Iβm so proud of them and the grit they showed tonight, ” said Cushman. “We told the ladies if they will believe in themselves the way we as the coaches believe in them we can accomplish great things. On to the next!”
Milli Parker stepped up in a big way, scoring the games first six poins (with a 1,2 and a 3-pointer) and finished the first quarter with nine of her team high 14.
Carroll County rebounded from a tough second quarter by doubling up on the visitors in the third quarter. The key possession came when Parker was fouled shooting a 3-pointer and made the first two shots before CCHS grabbed the offensive rebound and Hayden Heflin scored to complete a four point trip down the floor. The Lady Cavaliers led 22-20 at that point and held on to secure the victory.
Heflin ended the game in double figures with 11 points, including key π buckets down the stretch.
The beauty of writing β for oneself is getting to add a quote from a very proud Mother π©!!
” The girls played amazing tonight!! My Hayden made 11 points!!!! She was on fire tonight, as were the other girls!! I am so proud of them all!!! They didnβt have Kate and they were all worried but they all stepped up! And what a game!! Proud of that win for sure!!”

Note π on the scoring :
In the AI breakdown of the game, it gives Madison Adkins credit for one of the two made three pointers. But both the scorebook and my notes show both belonged to Milli.
