The Hill – Carroll County High School Boys Basketball might be in need of a warning label about your heart if Anthony Barnes and his Cavaliers keep playing games that resemble theme park rides.

The thrill a minute team protected The Hill in its Three Rivers District opener Tuesday night, edging Glenvar, 80 -76. The team and the fans will have little recovery time as both Varsity and Junior Varsity are set to play Thursday (@ Patrick County) and Friday versus Pulaski County in make-up games.

Isaiah Easter continues to lead the Cavaliers in his fourth and final season playing under Barnes. The point total landed at 35 and both Blake Reed (11 points) and Colton Gravley (14 points) joined Easter in double figures against the Highlanders.

”  First night if District play , which is huge for momentum and moving forward plus being home its huge too,” said Barnes. ” Definitely a game of runs, Coach Luton does a great job with his guys and the shoot and look for a 3 all the time, we spent 3 solid days on defensive and too hold them to only 6 make us mission accomplished.”

Trailing 42 – 37 at the half and limited to made 3 – pointers, Carroll County showed flexibility in their efforts to score on the offensive end with 25 made baskets from inside the Arc to just three from distance. The team sparkled at the charity stripe, going 21 of 28 for 75%.

Easter finished 11 of 12 from the free throw line and both fellow Senior, Trace Reavis  ( 9 points) and Reed went 3 of 4 to keep the Highlanders at bay.

” When you play it that way you will give up some drives like we did,” added Barnes. ” We are still to this day a work in progress, I told them after the game I was proud of never quitting or giving in and hats off too them they dug in and pulled it off.We have been working them extremely hard, (Jason) Stockner, ( Jabin )Talley and (Cody)  Reece are putting in everything they have for our success. Once we fine tune defensive wise our lives will be easier. Another huge game for Easter, 35pts,6 assits, and 5 rebounds. Been on Trace about producing offensive wise 9pts,4 rebounds, 2 assits, its what we have to have to be successful moving forward.”

Kyle Bunn and Hayden Jackson rounded out the scoring for Carroll County with two points each.

” Well rounded games by Reed and Gravely, only one day of practice for Motley with flu early in week to chip in 7,” noted Barnes. ” We going to be there and make noise , just gotta fix and clean up on the defensive end. Back to work tomorrow !”

Glenvar opened the night with a 53-38 victory in the Junior Varsity game, leaving CCHS at 4-5 on the season. Head Coach Ryan Phillips will look to return to .500 in Stuart on Thursday.

Defending the crown πŸ‘‘ in the District will not be an easy task but Tuesday night was a great start for the Cavaliers. The combination of a victory βž• atmosphere might have caused an enormous bump in the heart rate of a few folks in the building but they will have two days to rest up.
