Galax – Head Coach Anthony Barnes loaded up the Bus π for the third time this week after having multiple games effected by the weather and this time both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams returned to The Hill with victories over the Maroon Tide !
Junior Varsity Head Coach Ryan Phillips and his team went 2-1 on the week and now sit at 2-3 on the season following their 41 – 13 victory. The Cavalier defense was after their hosts from start to finish and flirted with pitching a second quarter shutout.
Carroll County controlled the Varsity game as well and the third victory of the season came at a timely spot. Both of the earlier games this week ( Fort Chiswell, Christiansburg ) had been hard fought road tests.
” We got back into the win column again thankfully, its always a tough game playing Galax, big time rival game with a ton of history,” said Barnes. ” Galax really gets after it anytime we play them and it was still the same, couse back at it also leaving one on the table at Cburg, we finally got things rolling after halftime, we really started too turn up pressure with our 3/4 trap turning them over and getting to the rim which is our game. Alot of contact on finishing against them but we stood strong. We still struggled with shooting at 3pt line 2-13, and shot 42% from floor.
Had 13 turnovers and bunch unforced ones that we gotta clean that up moving forward. Got some really strong minutes out Reavis( Crystal’s Boy) , and Easter ( Vickie’s Boy) continues to lead us, he had 20pts , 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 assits. Glad also that all our guys hit the floor at some point in thus one. Still gotta shoot better and work harder defensively individual and team defensive,we gotta week to prepare for next Saturday with start of Christmas tournament. Few days in-between for guys and coaches to reset. Let’s keep grinding!”
Vickie’s Boy is going to lead the way more often that not but the long term success of the Cavaliers could very well come down to the ability of the players around him to put the ball in the basket.
Rossie’s Boy is starting to look more and more comfortable playing on the bigger stage. His 18 points landed him in the number two spot on the team scoring list. The basketball π IQ is comparable to the points scored.
Sam’s Boy π¦ also landed deep in double figures, finishing the night with 17. Like Rossie’s Boy, the adjustment to playing at the higher level is continuing to look more and more comfortable.
The fifth and final starter is Elizabeth’s Boy and just a Freshman. Last night π he matched his jersey number with his point total of five.
Barnes mentioned the minutes played by Crystal’s Boy and another Senior is Kristi’s Boy. Key π minutes are needed from the top of the roster to the bottom as the season progresses.
Samantha’ s Boy π¦ is another player looking to push hard for more time on the floor and I wouldn’t bet against him.
Post π« Game Handshake, I hope this never goes away !
Incase you are wondering what you are looking at, the link above will explain it.
Sam’s Boy setting up the offense
Amy’s Boy π¦ netted four points and will be a key π going forward !!
Leagans ( Rebecca )Phillips ( Shelia’s Boy ) and Kinder ( Jenny’s Boy ) continue to work hard in hopes of earning more playing time. Rebecca’s Boy π¦ drilled a 3-pointer last night π!

Head Coach Anthony Barnes just shared his thoughts on the game last night and here in a bit I will get started on the game story for him. Being that this one is as close to Christmas π as it is, this gamer will come with a OneofUs.Care twist.
Once that was in my brain π§ , there was no turning back. So, where I would normally type Blake Reed it will say Sam’s Boy, Isaiah Easter = Vickie’s Boy, etc, etc, etc…. Nothing but neat Ladies across the board.
How does Marion Harris tie π into all ? Mr Harris is set to be our eyes π and ears back on The Hill as both the Junior Varsity and Varsity Girls are set to host games in our Christmas event!!
New Mexico (8-2) scored the first six points of the game before UNLV (5-5) went on a 28 – 4 run πββοΈ….Momentum is real, especially in Basketball π… End of 1st, 31 – 13
Late in the 3rd quarter over in Nashville, Kira Lawson and the Lady Blue Devils are closing in on a 6th victory.
54 – 32, Rebels at the break…

74 – 53 after 3…New Mexico swished a 3-pointer from beyond half court to end the third but it was ruled too late.
6 – 6 on the season now.Final Score
Now we are roughly 100 feet away for the Men’s Basketball game between UNLV and Fresno State. Fun Fact being Fresno State us the closet University to my hometown of Lemoore, California !
2 more free T-shirts π and 2 noise makers….
Kevin DeHaven and Marion Harris are both in the Gyms on The Hill and we will create a separate post π« for Girls Basketball π !!
