Thursday afternoon, before the Basketball π doubleheader against Galax Middle School π«, I had the rare opportunity to break bread π with Kris Richardson. The highlight of the 75 minutes came when we were discussing the efforts of Mrs Kayla Nester.
First things first, Kayla has a really nice Mother-in-law, terrific parents in Scotty and Patti Goins and loving & supportive Husband. Three neat little ones that are the love of her life ! Neat little Sister too.
My unofficial job here is to seek out the people who are going above and beyond for others. Identify them, applaud them and assist them in way that I have the means to do.
I am a HUGE fan of Kayla Nester as she is a younger version of Brandi Cochran Mitchell. Basketball in College, raced back to The Hill to set up shop, raise a family πͺ and help others. Priceless !
My concern for Kayla is that she might be going at a pace too fast to maintain. That’s when Kris shared his take on what it is like to have her as an Athletic Director.
” Attention to detail, constant communication and understanding what her role is as AD. Couldn’t ask for a better situation as a Head Coach.”
Teacher, Mother of 3, Wife, Big Sister, Daughter, Assistant Coach for Varsity Volleyball π and Basketball π, Middle School π« Athletic Director are just some of the tasks that this young Lady π© is currently working on !
#RoleModel
Keep up the Amazing work Ma’am and know that wee see you and appreciate your love for Carroll County !
Notes π
Yes – that was an intentional dig at our friend, Rick Nester by omitting his name.
NO – I did NOT call Brandi Old, just older than Kayla!

David Broyles was set to retire and spend the rest of his life with his lovely Bride π°. We even celebrated his retirement back on September 13th at Cavalier Park.
Β The common threads between David and myself is our love for our Wives and the folks at Duke University Medical Center π who take care of said Wives.
Allen Worrell left the Carroll News a while back and because the Newspaper π° business, where I have spent the past 50 years, is on its last leg π¦΅there wasn’t a line of people knocking down the door to takeover.
David agreed to postpone his happily ever after for a minute or two, and I couldn’t just leave him there to drown. See, Allen Worrell had a skill set that allowed him to create a newspaper each week. I’m not sure if people understand just how much of a Skill Set it takes to do his job and that’s not something that David had nor desired to have, yet here we are.
Β For years, it was Allen doing the job and David was his Plucky Sidekick, keeping his spirits lifted while writing β some stories along the way.
Now, David is stuck trying hard to play the role of Allen, so now I’m trying to be his Plucky Volunteer/ Unpaid πββοΈ Sidekick.
Caring β€ as much as I do about people and their situations is a double edged sword. David is tired and I’m tired so we are going to borrow from Eli Manning to solve our troubles.
Now sadly, if you don’t know the reference this won’t be hilarious to you.
We are going to go ” Chad Powers ” and bring back Allen Worrell disguised as Chad Powers. It’s a great plan and we have already placed the order for all of the make-up needed to pull it off !
Breaking News : Chad Powers hired on as the new Editor for The Carroll News ! Starting soon at a Main Street office π’ near you !
