Hillsville – Cross Country Head Coach Shawn Montgomery is the one in charge of all four Cavalier teams and they were all on display  Wednesday afternoon at Hillsville Elementary School.

Grayson County Blue Devils, Patrick County Cougars, Rural Retreat Indians and the Giles Spartans were all in with their teams while the Auburn Eagles participated in just the Middle School races.

Β  The meet went for just over 90 minutes start to finish and included three races. Opening up the day was the 18 Middle School Girls. Montgomery normally has four runners in thisΒ  event put both Polly Beamer and Haleigh Smith were unavailable. Reece Bunker (13:04.0) of Giles won the event while Carroll County runners Alexis Ponce (17:43.6) finished 13th and Aleksa Harriman( 26:47.8)  placed 18th.

The second race was the Middle School Boys and was the largest field of the day as 40 runners represented the six teams.

The Middle School Boys entered the event as the only squad eligible for the team competition. This group of nine runners are enjoying a strong season, highlighted by winning the meet held at Grayson County. Six of the nine were available in the race and a pair of Cavaliers placed inside the Top Ten.
