The Hill – Radford High School came to town undefeated in the Three Rivers District and returned home the same way after defeating Carroll County 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 25-16, 25-23) Tuesday night.
Radford (9-1, 4-0 Three Rivers) held off a furious attempt by Carroll County (10-5, 1-3) as Senior Lillian Joyce seemed to land a big Kill each time the Bobcats were being pressured by the Lady Cavaliers.
The opening set was last tied at 7-7 but Radford could not pull away from the Lady Cavaliers. Neither team strung together more than four points and Carroll County pulled within 23-22 beforeΒ Radford captured the point of the night and closed it out with a winner after a second straight long volley. Senior Brooke Webb led the way for Carroll County with 5 Kills in the set.
Β Carroll County played the second set in as high of a gear β they’ve reached this season. Webb punctuated the run with a Kill that went off a Bobcat and bounced off the scoreboard. That highlight reel point made it 20-9 and both Callie Harris (3 Aces) and Corrie Delp ( 3 Blocks, 1 Kill) joined in the fun as the Lady Cavaliers evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-14 victory. Laiken Burnett took turns feeding her teammates and Delp closed the set with a Block.
Ali Wright ( 4 Kills, 1 Ace) and Raylee Goins (2 Kills, 1 Ace) led the way in the third set but the Bobcats raced out to a 16-5 run on their way to a 25-16 victory
Head Coaches Cindy Edwards and Radford’s Karen Adams are both throw back leaders, so both knew just how pivotal the fourth set would be. Burnett tied the set at 4-4 with one of her quarterback sneaks and it sent Harris to the service line. Four straight points followed as Harris landed three service winners and Wright added a Kill to make it 8-4.
Β Radford clawed its way back into the set and the teams were tied at every point from 11 through 16. The Bobcats would eventually pull away after recording a series of well timed blocks off some of the best swings of the night by Carroll County.
Trailing 22-18, the Lady Cavaliers made one final push. Wright started the run with a Kill and then headed to the service line for a point on a Webb Kill. The balance of the night was Joyce and Webb exchanging winners. Webb finished the final four points and tied the score at 23-23 before Joyce sealed the match with two final Kills..
Webb and Wright both finished the fourth set with 5 Kills each and Harris added three more points from the service line.
Carroll County Middle School open the Triple Header by winning its match 2-1 and Carroll County High Junior Varsity rallied from a 1-0 deficit for a 2-1 victory in its match versus the Bobcats.
The two older teams will now hit the road and remain away from The Hill for exactly four weeks. They are set to return home to close out the season with two final matches.
Thursday night both squads will travel to Martinsville for their first ever TRD match with the Bulldogs.

As we drove North up I-81 after the Volleyball π marathon, I was following both the Seattle game, the Texas Rangers game and the Astros game.
When we stopped for the night, it wasn’t looking good so I stayed up and tried to change the Luck. While writing β the Middle School story Texas lost but Seattle trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning and has just managed one hit.
During the Junior Varsity story, Josh Naylor ripped a bases loaded double to give the Mariners a 4-3 lead. Houston gave up four straight to Oakland and just like that the Mariners are in the post season and one win from the division !!
Great Day, but I still need a Varsity Volleyball story so let’s get back to it.

Cleveland beating Detroit puts Seattle within 1 game of an opening round bye!

Put another really Cool π person in the Photo π·, with them !
Β My favorite thing to do on Volleyball π night π is to use as many of the 3:00 minute breaks to show appreciation for other things Carroll County. Mr Easter joined me Courtside in between the first and second set of the Varsity match and the young Man from Cana more than held his own !
Thank You Isaiah and Thank You π Cool Mom of Faith !

Visiting Radford hit the floor running in the Junior Varsity match Tuesday night on The Hill. By the time Carroll County caught its breath they were trailing 21-9 in the opening set but rallied back for a come from behind 2-1 ( 16-25, 25-21, 15-10) Three Rivers District victory.
The rally actually started late in the opening set as Carroll County outscored Radford 7-4 down the stretch. Aaliyah Hampton scored two Kills, Hayden Heflin added one to go along with Aces from both Paige Ogle and Annabelle Short, closing out the 25-16 setback on a strong πͺ note.
The key π moment in the match occurred in the second set when an Ogle Kill put Carroll County ahead 13-8. Radford proceeded to go on an 8-0 run to retake the lead 16-13. It would have been easy for the home team to accept defeat and begin to look ahead to Thursday night at Martinsville High School.
Instead, Carroll County closed out on a 12-5 run πββοΈ sparked first by three straight Kills (Heflin 2, Ogle 1) and then Morgan Osborne serving at 21-21, closing her run with a Bullet Ace to even the night 25-21.
In the closeout set it was Scarlett Dalton with four straight points at the line to give CCHS a 7-2 lead in the chase to 15. The teams finished up 8-8 and Carroll County won π15-10 !
The Lady Cavaliers will not return to The Hill for exactly four weeks now but return to action π¬ Thursday night at Martinsville.
