Mother’s Day as Carroll County Middle School hosted Scott Memorial Maroons. Little Cavaliers took their guests to three sets before falling just short.

Brittany Kinney and Kelly Holderfield led their Middle School 🏫 Volleyball 🏐 team into action 🎬 Monday night and their team showed streaks of positive play.

In the opening set, the Lady Cavaliers trailed 16-5 early and 21-9 later but Briley McGhee headed to the service line and sparked a 5-0 run with three Aces and a fourth service winner. Laynee Burnett added both a Kill and an Ace before the Maroons closed out the opener, 25-17.

Mahala Holderfield and Burnett each landed an early Ace and then Emma Keith strung together three straight perfect serves to put the home team up 9-6. Tied at 14-14, Carroll County went on a 7-1 run to make it 21-15. The Lady Cavaliers closed out the second set 25-22 , forcing a winner take all third set.

Keith and McGhee opened the third set with consecutive Kills to make it 2-0. The Maroons answered with an 11-0 run to put the set out of reach. Zari Cushman and Burnett added points before Scott Memorial closed out the set, 15-6.

The Middle School 🏫 Volleyball team  is set to host Radford Middle School Tuesday at 4:30.

Next step, I will send this to Coach Kinney and hopefully πŸ™ we can add some of her thoughts !

From Coach Kinney :

Jerry-

I’m writing this post from Leesburg. After the game tonight, I headed straight out to a two day training in Ashburn, VA. I’m teaching a college class in the spring and needed this.

I thought our girls fought well tonight. That second game, was a true version of their best selves… happy & playing volleyball & winning.

I told our girls tonight I’m continuing to hold them to the β€œpass-set-hit” standard and most of the time we are executing that well to be a team of middle school girls!

You can see tonight serving is one of the most important (if not the most important) parts of volleyball. I thought we did a much better job at this than normal. I’m so proud of our girls for their performance!!

During the third set, we lost our composure a little bit and stopped having fun. Our score reflected that.

However, these girls are working hard. They are looking for feedback and they want to be successful.

I’m leaving them in the hands of the amazing Coach Kelly, Coach Nester, and Coach Heflin! I’ll be watching (and wishing) I could be on the sidelines with them tomorrow night for Radford.
