To Borrow a Line from Aaron Sorkin in Newsroom, ” Now its just us.” The Volleyball 🏐 stories have been written to now every minute of the next 27 hours will be designated as Make Tomorrow Shine !

Thank You Mrs Nicholson!

There’s no way that this won’t be a much longer read than the normal Post for there is a decent amount of thought process bouncing around in my Brain to think otherwise.

When every waking moment is designed to serve God and pursue what I believe πŸ™ that is my calling, to find ways to give people hope and meaning, you have to protect yourself. I cannot do what I do on a Daily basis if I get caught up in the noise of the real World. This is the reason why I don’t watch live TV, read the news or partake in Social Media.

Yesterday afternoon I announced a Junior Varsity Volleyball match and tried to treat it like I was calling the 7th game of the World Series. While announcing the game I also scored the game and then this morning I transcribed my notes πŸ“ and one hour later, produced a story that at best 100 people might read. At the end of the effort, six hours, give or take on the Junior Varsity Volleyball match.

For those reading at home 🏑, its okay to laugh at that fact 🀣. Thankfully, I can’t hear you laugh at me, that’s the beauty of living in a Bubble.

Tomorrow morning I will head down to Cavalier Park with my supplies in hand βœ‹ and do my best to provide entertainment for ALL that dare to cross The Boulevard to join us. Being that it’s FREE, I could say that it comes with a Money πŸ’° Back guarantee !

Going to borrow from David Letterman once again to create a pair of Top Ten Lists. The first one explains why a 62 year old Man who could be on a Tropical island 🏝 would spend 6 hours on a Junior Varsity Volleyball match.

#10 – The Parents and Grandparents of the Players. They work for a living and one of the joys in their life is watching their Child wear the School colors.

#9 – Nikki Heflin is a kind hearted soul who is double dipping as both Head Coach and proud Mother.

#8 – Cindy Edwards – The amount of time that Coach gives to the Volleyball 🏐 community as a whole and Carroll County is particular is astounding.

#7 – Each of the young Ladies who have a spot on the roster. They give of their time and energy with the goal to improve their game and enjoy their teammates.

#6 – Joi Ogle – This young Lady has somehow found a way to lead a Swim program that sends Student Athletes to State Competition and does it in a manner that might have her the most respected Coach on The Hill. When she’s in the Gym, its to watch her little Girl Paige play a game. Who wouldn’t want to do right by her ???

#5 – Athletic Director Kevin DeHaven – almost 50 years of dealing with AD’s at both the High School and College level, I can say that volunteering for this Man is a pleasure. Solid individual, great family support system and is as humble πŸ™ as the day is long.

#4 – Seth Greer and Casey Burcham – this pairing on this list my surprise people but both of these young Men are doing tremendous things on our Campus and the fact that they are such Great leaders allows me to focus on what I do.

#3 – Mr Travis Osborne – We all need people to have as Mental Partners and Travis fits that bill for me. Somedays its hard to always try to do the right thing when taking the easy way could work.

#2 – Principal Chuck Thompson – our Leader has a serious Job to do, one way beyond my understanding. I compare the role of Principal to that of a Pilot on any flight ✈️ I take. If you are not both praying πŸ™ for and thinking about him or her in a positive manner…..

#1C – Howard Mayo and Kris Richardson. Mayo is someone who I believe truly gets it and because of Kris and his personal services contract, I am required to have him in ALL Top 10 lists.

#1B – Mrs Shelia Harris – Mom to a trio of Amazing Kiddos and the first time she could catch her breath, she jumped back into the Frying Pan as an Assistant Coach. Some people might think its to have time away from Marion but that’s a different conversation.

#1A – GOD – last night would have been a great day to make the short drive to DeacTown and watched NC State – Wake Forest. Or stay and home and watch the NFL game between Green Bay – Washington. ” Find a Need and Fill It” is the tagine I live by and when I’m asked why I treat everything like its the 7th game of the World Series, I respond because it is to the Coaches. Players and Parents.

Moving forward to the list for tomorrow afternoon.

When I say that the only way I can constantly be the Captain of the Good 🚒Ship Lollipop is to live in a Bubble, people might not understand what that means.

Before yesterday morning, I had never heard the name Charlie Kirk. When the name came up in my meeting with Eddie Vaughn, Dr Oliver McBride and Stephen Puckett, it was News to me. Last night, when I was watching the Sparks play the Aces, I broke my own set of rules and wondered into the deep end of the Swimming Pool and what I discovered was more than I bargained for.

Folks, the divide is so much greater than I had feared. The theme for tomorrow is Girls Just Wanna Have Fun but the subtitle is ” We are all in this together”

In trying hard to get folks to cross over the Boulevard tomorrow, many a person has responded with oh, the Alumni Game. Yes, the festivities will conclude with a fun filled Softball game that Travis Leath, Kevin Burress and I will take turns picking at our partner, Macie Adkins and the other returning players but that is just a portion of the day.

Borrowing from Mr Letterman again, here are the Top 10 things you can enjoy for your Zero Dollars πŸ’΅

#10 – Travis Leath will have his Travel Softball team running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ the Concession stand. Two perks – you don’t have to make lunch and you’re supporting Youth.

#9 – Tiffanie Moore is making a return appearance to Cavalier Park and will be throwing out the Ceremonial First Pitch. On a personal note πŸ“, if I could get one photo taken tomorrow it would include Tiff, Mr Thompson. David Broyles and myself.

#8 – Inclusion – we will have both Mr DeHaven and Principal Thompson playing a role in the festivities. The number one goal should always be about opening the door πŸšͺ to anyone who wants to participate !

#7 – It’s our opportunity as a Community to send David Broyles off into the Sunset πŸŒ‡ by providing him with a Moment in the Sun. Plucky Sidekick is the moniker I tagged David with a few years back but don’t mistake my level of appreciation for the Man and his Mad Skills. Our third of three 🎢🎡πŸͺ•πŸŽΌ musical numbers will center around David in costume, dancing πŸ’ƒ to the theme song – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Ready to be the Solid Gold Backup Dancers include Greg Bolen, Russell Smoot, Kevin Burress, Rick Nester and myself.

#6 – Alvin Davidson is a pillar in our Community and is a Man who wears many, many πŸ‘’πŸŽ©πŸ‘’πŸŽ©. On Saturday he will have two responsibilities with the first part being taking about the 10 year Anniversary of the State Championship team.

#5 – Patricia Lineberry and her Performers opening up the afternoon with both a live performance 🎭 of the National Anthem and a bonus diddy for a special guest.

#4 – God and Country – our second Musical 🎼 number has to remain somewhat under wraps for reasons that will become obvious once it takes place.

#3 – Dakota Walls Racing 🏎 and Velvet Leonard Photography will both be on display throughout the afternoon. Walls is a Carroll County High School Sophomore who is responsible for his own stock car team, alongside his Father, CCHS graduate πŸŽ“, Eddie Walls.

#2 – Having the opportunity to provide our new Superintendent, Mr Huff, with the opportunity to share his thoughts on his vision for our future is something that I am truly proud to be a part of. After having Allen Worrell describe the creativity displayed by our new Leader, I cannot wait.

#1 – Our Red Carpet Fashion Show

If anyone has ever watched a Poker game on TV πŸ“Ί or in person, there’s always the one hand where someone pushes their entire pile of chips toward the Pile and says, ” I’m ALL in “…

Five years, thousands of conversations and more effort than I thought I had left to give, I have one thought that I believe is the 1 idea πŸ’‘ above all others. We have to find away to have everyone be on equal footing to move forward as a Group. I am sure of that as I am of anything.

With some help from Mr Ron Cochran at Omega Office 🏒, we have designed a Top or pullover if you will. A great deal of time and thought has went into this and we have created a Test Model and have created a fun way to roll it out.

The obvious question would be why Softball as the test Model ? To answer that, I refer back to the passing of Assistant Coach Jeff Tobler a year ago. Tobes was so much to so many and it showed at his funeral service. To many of the Softball players he was a second Father, Uncle or at a minimum, a Family πŸ‘ͺ member.

We are going to have a Gala tomorrow and we will do our very best to make the Day as fun as possible !

If you made it to the end, God Bless You for your time and don’t be Afraid to Cross the Boulevard !!!

The Best Coaching match-up in the Three Rivers District took place last night πŸŒ™ on The Hill and it was a great watch !

The landscape of our Three Rivers District has changed quite a bit in the past few years. We have added Patrick County High School and traded Alleghany High for Martinsville High as the league fits on a map a little bit better for sure.

There is a long list of Sports played inside of the District and there are hundreds of Coaches who compete against each other but trust me when I say there is no better Head to Head pairing that rivals the duo of Cindy Edwards of Carroll County High School versus Mark Rohrback of Glenvar High School.

Last night the duo went Kill for Kill and Dig for Dig against each other for the first of two annual matches and this time the victory belonged to the visiting Highlanders, 3-0 ( 25-19, 25-21, 25-20). The tough part about the match was it ended way to early.

Rohrback and Edwards are throwback leaders in a sport that many don’t see as mainstream but good luck trying to convince either of them about that.

The reality is that Cindy Edwards is a Coaching Legend and there will never be another one quite like her on the Volleyball sidelines at Carroll County High School. Part of that is her longevity but a larger portion is her pride and commitment to the sport she loves.

How good is Rohrback for the game of Volleyball ? When he’s not coaching the Glenvar Varsity Girls, he’s coaching the Roanoke College Men. His Highlanders recently captured Back 2 Back State Championships and did so without a player taller than 5’7.

His Wife, Jen, coaches the Junior Varsity team and their daughter Emily is just a Freshman, already playing a key role on the Varsity squad. Why is that fact important to the story ? Because just like when a political candidate wins an election, the chant becomes FOUR MORE YEARS ! We need Edwards versus Rohrback for atleast four more years.

If this was Hollywood, the perfect ending to this pairing would take place four years down the road with both Coaches reaching the Final Four and then riding off into the Sunset before making Aflac commercials together.

The common bond between the pair is simple, intensity and passion for the sport of Volleyball.

Carroll County (7-4,0-2 TRD) welcomed back Ali Wright from her injury but once again played without Senior, Corrie Delp. The score will show a sweep but know that the Lady Cavaliers were in all three sets until the final swing.

The opening set went back and forth with the difference being that Glenvar was able to string together points more frequently. Runs of 4, 3 and 3 were enough to hold the Lady Cavaliers at bay, 25-19.

The second set was decided during a trio of four point spurts. Leading 9-8, Glenvar had a 4-0 run that Carroll County answered with a Laiken Burnett quarterback sneak and a pair of Brooke Webb Kills and a net violation. Glenvar created some breathing room with a follow up 4-0 burst.

Heidi Painter andArizona Thompson teamed up for a perfect block, followed by a well placed winner from Thompson. Painter added a block to cut the lead to 17-15 but Glenvar did just enough to pull out the set, 25-21.

Edwards tweaked her lineup in the third set by moving Faith Nicholson into the Libero. Insert info for the casual fan

Placing Nicholson in the odd jersey freed up Callie Harris to give the Lady Cavaliers another free swinger in an attempt to string together a run or two.

The move produced an early 5-0 run that turned a 7-4 deficit into a 9-4 lead. The best run of the match included to Aces from Ali Wright plus a Kill from the Junior in addition to a Webb Kill and Raylee Goins block.

Wright served another Ace to give the Lady Cavaliers a 19-17 lead but Glenvar answered back with a 6-0 run to avoid a fourth set. 25-20 was the final score that ended the night way earlier than hoped for.
