Carroll County – Radford Boys Soccer match Monday night was a tale of two halves as the Cavaliers did their best to protect our Hill !

The Bobcats are now 11-3 on the season and are primed for yet another run in the upcoming State Tournament. Their only setbacks were to Glenvar twice and once to Blacksburg. So when Radford went into the halftime break leading 2-0 it was not a surprise to anyone.

If one wasn’t inside Tommy Thompson Field last night all they would know is Radford High defeated our Cavaliers and the final score was 4-2 in a Three Rivers District match.

Six minutes in, Luciano Pugliese scored the opening goal and the game remained 1-0 until Radford converted a penalty kick at 19:12.

Halftime involved a touching tribute to Carroll County Principal Chuck Thompson and an acknowledgment of the young ladies that have been helping Head Coach Forrest Johnson all season.

The second half started and quickly went down hill for the Cavaliers. Three minutes in, Robert FukszΒ  took a pass from Tommaso Brianzi to make it 3-0.

At 31:23 Brianzi pushed the deficit to 4-0 with an unassisted goal. The nice crowd, using the Home bleachers, the Junior Varsity 2-1 victory and the tribute to the Track πŸ‘£ and Field teams βž• Chuck Thompson had not moved the needle to that point.

But then something happened that flipped the script as the Cavaliers absolutely dominated the final 30 minutes of play.

Landon Puckett converted a Penalty Kick at 20:29 so CCHS avoided the whitewash. Four minutes later, Puckett found Samuel Collins with a touch pass but the Radford keeper was able to make the save.

At 15:53, Oliver Lopez showed off his booming leg 🦡and put the Biscuit in the basket 🧺. Now the match was 4-2 and Uncle Mo (jo) was clearly playing for the home team.

Two minutes later the Cavs had three straight Corner kicks where they flirted with making it 4-3. Harper Parnell found Hez Mejia and that duo almost pulled the team to within one goal.

” They did everything that I asked to do tonight,” said Head Coach Forrest Johnson. ” Especially there in the second half, we had some opportunities. Very proud of our resilience.”

Carroll County Varsity Boys will close out the regular season Wednesday night as part of the rare Varsity doubleheader. Mr Ches Helmick and Edward Jones have covered the gate for Wednesday night as did OneofUs.Care on Monday night.

Three Musketeers Night

For the thirteenth time in fifteen matches on the season Carroll County Girls Soccer ended a match with a zero on the scoreboard, unfortunately Monday night it was our zero.

Carroll County Varsity Girls Soccer traveled up to the Bobcat Din in Radford Monday night, falling by a final score of 3-0 in the Three Rivers District match.

CCHS is now 8-5-2 on the season and will finish up in fourth place in the league. The team will have two more chances to play back at Tommy Thompson Field, first on Tuesday night at 4:30 and then Wednesday night at 5:30.

In each of the five setbacks on the season the Lady Cavaliers were blanked by their opponent. One of the ties was 0-0 as well with seven of the eight victories coming off a shutout.

Monday night was on its way to repeating the home match with Radford, which was the above mentioned 0-0 deadlock. Radford was finally able to find the back of the net in the opening forty minutes of play. The teams headed into the break at 1-0.

Radford was able to protect their lead and once they scored their second goal they were able to focus on locking down the Lady Cavaliers. The third and final goal put the match out of reach.

The good news for Head Coach Adrienne Harris and her group is that they will have two more opportunities to reignite the offense ahead of the Regional tournament. The team is in the 7-10 seed grouping with both the seventh and eighth seeds hosting the play in match.

Carroll County defeated Martinsville 4-0 and Patrick County 2-0 in the away portion of the home and home series. Getting the offense back in their comfort zone over the next two nights is imperative for the program. Whether its at home as a 7/8 or on the road as a 9/10, a first round victory was give the program a huge boost for the off-season work outs.

Brittany Kinney and her Junior Varsity squad battled the Bobcats for 60 minutes before falling by a 2-1 tally. Both matches with Radford were back and forth events. The JV team will close out its season Tuesday night at Tommy Thompson Field.

Jeremy Puckett and his Junior Varsity Soccer ⚽️ squad closed out their home season in style, defeating Radford 2-1!

The combination of the bleachers upgrade for Soccer and the weather for all four, has kept our Junior Varsity squads watching games and matches slip slide away.

Alexis Dalton and her Softball team hasn’t played at Cavalier Park in what feels like forever and a day. They will miss out on Thursday night as Patrick County is not bringing a JV team with them but we will be able to acknowledge her group but its not the same as getting to play.

Adam Nester and his Nester Nine has more lost games than games lost this season. They are the Three Rivers District πŸ†πŸ†πŸ† but they will have to settle for a forfeit victory today against Radford. They are set to play one more on Thursday night.

Brittany Kinney gets to have her farewell game later today as her group takes the Pitch after the Varsity match. Here’s hoping that she has a nice turnout.

That brings us to Jeremy Puckett and his group. Monday night πŸŒ™ they hosted the Bobcats and will end their season on a high note with a closeout 2-1 victory.

Joni Rosales put the biscuit in the basket 🧺 with 5:05 remaining in the first half. The eighth grader had a few opportunities up to that point and he drove it home to make it 1-0. The Cavaliers took the lead into halftime.

The ten minute break was dedicated to the Track πŸ‘£ and Field program. Both, Head Coach Shawn Montgomery and Assistant Coach Jon Delp highlighted everything about their programs.

Radford found the back of the net at 10:43 remaining in the match. Keating Smith followed his own shot to tie πŸ‘” the score at 1-1, briefly taking the wind out of the Cavaliers sails β›΅.

Briefly was the key word as exactly two minutes later, Rosales scored again to put the Cavs up 2-1. The team was able to protect the advantage over the final 8:43, sending the program to the off-season with a Win.

The team would have played again on Wednesday evening but that night was needed for a Girls Varsity match.

Having an opportunity to lend some vocal skills to all but one of the 🏑 matches was enjoyable as was getting a closer look at Puckett the Coach was fun as well.

One of our priorities here is to attempt to treat the four Spring Junior Varsity teams as close to equal as possible. Getting to call a minimum of three contests for each and making sure their scores were recorded was another.

Dalton, Puckett, Kinney and Nester each worked hard this Spring and we did our best to acknowledge that every time we could.

Thank You to all four !

Welcome πŸ™ to the last Cavalier Tuesday of the regular season πŸ™Œ βž• a look back at a magical Monday on The Hill !!

Here is what we know to be factual in regards to the seven games / matches listed above :

#3 of 7 – Our Junior Varsity Baseball ⚾️ team has earned a forfeit victory, 2-0. Good News on the victory, Bad news on the fact that the Nester Nine misses out an opportunity to play in front of their 🏑 fans.

#6 of 7 – Brittany Kinney and her Junior Varsity Girls Soccer ⚽️ team will be playing their final game at Tommy Thompson Field but they will now be playing the second game of the doubleheader.

#7 of 7 – Adrienne Harris and her Varsity Girls team will be playing now at 4:30. This allows our Head Coach to get to her Kindergarten Graduation πŸŽ“ on time.

#8 of 7 – Martin McKenzie and his Girls Tennis 🎾 team will not be traveling up to Alleghany High today due to a shortage of available players.

#9 of 7 – Tonight’s Soccer ⚽️ is once again Free of Charge, as ASPN will flip the bill in order to have the setting double as a Dr Ben Tickle Going Away Party πŸ₯³

The long time cornerstone of Carroll County High School will be finishing his move down to Florida here in a few days (May 28th). The opportunity to send him off with well wishes and do it on a night πŸŒ™ when the Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer teams are playing matches is the Websters definition of a No Brainer.

Among the dump truck 🚚 load of people who will miss him is the young Ladies he coached last season. Every member of the group that I labeled the Battling Ben Tickles are invited to pen πŸ–Š a note πŸ“ to him that I will happily share over the PA system during the evening.

#10 of 7 – The folks at The Carroll News will be busy tonight down in Mount Airy, North Carolina from 4 to 6 pm. There will be wonderful πŸ‘ News for some Carroll County High School Athletes 🏫 that will become public knowledge shortly!

Every now and then, two of the Worlds I spend time in have a cross over moment and that was the case yesterday afternoon at the Tennis Senior Day affair. Anyone who follows our efforts knows of the connection between myself and Vickey Ritchie. Pressly ” Money πŸ’°” Talley was in attendance and we were able to share a moment. Also. Thank You to Vickey for stopping by !

Another moment to treasure came in the form of meeting Rambo’s Father πŸ‘¨ for the first time as we went over some notes about his Senior Night material.

Daniel Torres-Lopez

Mr D – T – L has some game and he once again shared the Press Box with me and rolled the names of our JV team like an absolute professional. Truly enjoy this young Man and his talents.

The young Lady on the left has once again messed with my schedule. The goal was to hit the road by Memorial Day weekend but Corrie Delp will be performing in Lynchburg, Virginia on June 6th so that becomes to new end of the road. The three folks in this Photo πŸ“· are pretty Awesome !

Priceless

Mr Dalton shared a priceless memory with me during our chat. Here you see a very young Rambo and Cody Reece.

While I have no photo of Rick & Donna Nester to prove it, the Ole Ball Coach crushed the speech honoring our Principal, Chuck Thompson !!

These two were spot on terrific across the five hours !
Dynamic Duo

Missed an opportunity to get a Photo πŸ“· of the Smoots and Daltons together, but maybe πŸ‘€ someone who took one can help me out later.

Having our fans back on our side of the Pitch and nobody was more thrilled than Tammy Quesenberry !!

I still owe both Jeremy Puckett and Forrest Johnson game stories for Allen Worrell and that will come after the next nap!

Last one before getting some rest – The one on the right is my kinda Guy, the Lady on the Left impressed the mess out of me today !!!

These two have a History that goes back decades and today the three of us and Mr Chuck Thompson teamed up to create a new one.

The scoreboard will show that Radford won the match 7-2 but we created some legit MAGIC.

More on this one and some Soccer ⚽️ stories for Allen Worrell after a while.
