Later today we will Celebrate the first of two Tennis 🎾 Senior Days, beginning with our Boys πŸ‘¦, Paul Marshall and Ethan Richardson. Thursday its Tiffany Cruise and Erika McKenzie !

Head Coach Christy Shupe just crossed the Boulevard to hang her Senior Day signage up and this brought a smile πŸ˜ƒ to my face !

We are still a couple of hours away from getting started but anytime you suggest trying something out of the norm, the level of success is based on others level of interest.

The goal for today is not to have 500 people show up. The goal is to make absolutely sure that Mr & Mrs Marshall βž• Mr & Mrs Richardson understand beyond the shadow of a doubt that Carroll County High School appreciates the sacrifice they received from their Sons over the past four years.

That is my mission and I will do my very best to achieve it ! These two young Men are what I would like to call an easy talk.

The Afternoon and Evening are starting to take shape. There’s even a crossing of the Boulevard involved and a Birthday πŸŽ‚ to acknowledge !

Happy Birthday πŸŽ‚ to the young Lady πŸ‘© on the left.

Thanks go out to Kris Richardson, Anthony Barnes, Rick Nester, Allen Worrell and Ron Cochran for their assistance with today already.

Here is one of the first schedule Highlights :

During the Halftime break of the Varsity match for the Boys πŸ‘¦ Soccer program, Rick Nester and I will be presenting a our tribute to the efforts of Principal Chuck Thompson. Estimated time – 7:45

International pageant of Introduction for the Varsity Boys game, followed by the National Anthem.

In between the two games we will be holding a Senior Day ceremony for both Nathanael Dalton and Brayden Smoot.

At halftime of the Junior Varsity game (Est- 6:15ish), Shawn Montgomery and Jon Delp will assist us in recognizing every member of their Track and Field team.

At 5:30 we will perform our International Introduction of the Junior Varsity teams.

Est – 5:15 – with our Banner for the evening we will attempt to capture a moment with our Trio. The goal is to get a Photo πŸ“· of the Three Musketeers holding the banner.

4:15 pm – Conduct the Tennis 🎾 teams Senior Day ceremony and then pack up to cross the Boulevard and begin setting up for the next phase.

4:00 pm – South end of the Boulevard to set up the program for Ethan Richardson and Paul Marshall

Why is it important to try and break it down in this manner ? From beginning to end, it will last from 4pm to 9pm. Forrest Johnson has a reason why he has to stay until the end and I will be there with him.

Others don’t have that kind of time but maybe they want to catch a part of the process. Now people can look at the Menu and pick their spots if they want.

The only way the day could get even better is if Chris Mabry would join me in singing Happy Birthday to the Mother of Mama Smoot !

What’s on the line tonight when Adrienne Harris leads her Lady Cavs into the Bobcats Den ? Third place in the ultra tough Three Rivers District standings…

The standings in the Three Rivers District Girls Soccer ⚽️ is a tale of two groups. Floyd County is trying hard to field a Varsity squad, Alleghany competed hard but failed to win a match in the league and Patrick County only defeated Alleghany twice.

At the top of the league you will find Glenvar and the Highlanders are primed to make a strong case for being State Champs πŸ† next month. James River is next and they also a notch above everyone not named Glenvar. Carroll County overall is 8-4-2 on the season and each of their four setbacks came at the feet of the Highlanders and Knights.

In the second teir of the league is where we find the Cavaliers and the Bobcats. When the two tangled earlier this season they played to a scoreless draw.

This leads us into tonight. A win over the Bobcats would be the biggest victory of the season and give the Cavaliers a chance to finish up on third place.

A draw would prove that the club is on the same level as Radford and give the team momentum heading into their Tuesday and Wednesday home matches.

A setback would not be the end of the World, nor would it dimmenish what has been accomplished in the inaugural season for Coach Harris, but it would be a missed opportunity for the group.

Somet tmes a match is just a match, other times in an opportunity to make a statement about who you are and where you’re trying hard to get to.

So, here in a few hours, when the staff is having a chat on the Bus 🚌 as it rides up Highway πŸ›£ 100, the thought process can include a narrative about what is at stake tonight !

Let’s not forget that Brittany Kinney and her squad will be on the Pitch first for the next to the last time. The team has grown this season by leaps and bounds, especially when its considered that they started from scratch.

Plenty of reasons to represent The Hill in a place that can be tough to play.

In closing, if you are a Soccer ⚽️ fan and can’t make it to Radford, please stop by Tommy Thompson Field for the Boys Doubleheader.
