Welcome πŸ™ to Saturday morning πŸŒ„ where our first piece of business is to announce that Lake Nester will prevent us from having our Military event and Softball game versus James River today.

Current View

There was considerable doubt that Cavalier Park could hold anymore rain 🌧 yesterday afternoon as we were trying to host Magna Vista. We have our answer this morning and its time to declare that Mother Nature is one tough out.

Athletic Director Kevin DeHaven will work with the good folks up in Buchanan in hopes of getting this one back on the schedule early next week.

The Baseball ⚾️ doubleheader at Bill Worrell Field is still on as of this minute and if that changes we will let you know.

The Burcham Bunch

Adam Nester has his lineup card ready for the game with James River High School 🏫.

Just over 90 minutes from start time.

Later today we plan to turn Cavalier Park into a Military Base as the Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers salute seven Veterans during a special edition of First Pitch !!!

Over the past few years its been nothing short of a Blast to team up with Head Coach Rick Nester in our efforts to give Cavalier Park a Church β›ͺ Picnic type of environment.

A few years back, our Press Box team ( Kevin Burress, Tammy Tobler and new cast member, Macie Adkins added a nightly tribute to Veterans and Active Duty soldiers. We end the half inning with the show of respect by playing as much of Lee Greenwood’s Anthem.

Everyone has their own count of branches of the Services with the actual number being seven.

Army, Air Force, Air National Guard, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy and Space Force.

Our First Pitch will match the Seven with Seven. In a perfect world 🌎 we could have all seven branches. We came pretty close as we have four of them covered.

My own history with the Military runs very deep. My Father was career Navy, one of my Brothers was and I enlisted myself but the fact they couldn’t find a way to correct my injury, ended my stay. The third generation connection comes in the form of one of my three Sons being active duty in the Air Force.

Kevin Burress will be representing our Marine Corps. Our love for All-Things Military made this one an absolute No-Brainer. Naturally, we still needed the Blessings of Coach Nester to orchestrate the event.

Head Football Coach Seth Greer will represent our Navy with Justin Haga taking care of the Air Force.

Mark Thompson, Rick Carlson, Vickey Ritchie each spent time serving our Country in the Army. Current Carroll County High School Wrestling Coach West Long is the seventh Veteran to receive an invitation to participate.

The two most famous words in Carroll County this week are ” Weather Permitting” and this afternoon is no different. We plan on holding the First Pitch just before our 4:00 pm start time.

11 hours of promotional efforts of Carroll County High School on a Friday ends with a smile as Kelsey Plum had a night that would make both Howard Mayo and Kris Richardson smile !!

Here is the final stat line for the 5’8 former University of Washington Huskie :

37 points

6 Assists

5 Steals

2 Rebounds

11-19 FG, 11-11 FT and 4-6 from Deep

Feeling blessed to have sat in Hec Ed for all four years of her College career !

Hopefully, the efforts today will have made some folks smile !
