Thank You Allen Worrell πŸ™ for getting the story up so quickly and for NewsBreak for deeming it worthy !

Speaking of Tennis 🎾 and Mother Nature, Martin McKenzie traveled to the Star 🌟 City looking to play two matches but settled for one after weather interrupted. Good News is the Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers took care of business, 6-3!

Coach McKenzie took the time to add that the Knights are showing improvement which can be a challenge when you don’t have courts at your School to practice on.

The match was played at Hollins.

Congratulations πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ Coach and team !

Now that we have looked at Tuesday night, let’s expand the view as we enter the final two weeks of the Spring regular season for the 12 Cavalier teams.

Casey Burcham and his Varsity Baseball team are in a two team race 🏁 with Patrick County for the top spot in the Three Rivers District race. The two teams played a back and forth contest in Stuart a few weeks back and the rematch is set for next Tuesday night at Bill Worrell Field!

Boys and Girls Track and Field  are set to compete again this weekend at Christiansburg and then again on the 14th ahead of the post season. Corrie Delp has qualified for the State Tournament and both Shawn Montgomery & Jon Delp are hopeful that a few others might qualify to join her in Lynchburg on June 6th.

The Nester Nine JV Baseball

Head Coach Adam Nester has hit the ground running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ in his first season at the helm of the program. The team is searching for its sixth straight Three Rivers District crown πŸ‘‘ and is positioned well to bring it home. The team has dropped just one game this season and it was in extra innings at Glenvar.

Girls Varsity Soccer ⚽️

All four Soccer ⚽️ programs are top heavy in regards to Home matches down the stretch after starting the season with non-stop road tilts due to the improvements ongoing at Tommy Thompson Field.

This week is a great example as there is some form of Soccer ⚽️ being played all five nights πŸŒ™. Monday night was Senior night for the Boys team  and they are now gearing up for their Home and Home matches with neighboring Galax.

Adrienne Harris has her team sitting at 7-2-2 by winning every match they had the advantage against and tying Radford in a match for third place in the TRD. Glenvar and James River are going to battle it out for the top spot while the Bobcats and Lady Cavaliers tussle for the next spot.

Boys Head Coach Forrest Johnson has his Senior laden squad in its own chase for 3rd place, as Glenvar prepares itself for another run at a State Tournament crown. The advantage of having the deck stacked in regards to home games should play out in the Cavaliers favor

Junior Varsity Head Coaches Brittany Kinney and Jeremy Puckett have found success as of late in their efforts to prepare the next group of Cavaliers for the coming seasons.

The Boys team will face a pair of matches down the home stretch versus a talented Galax squad, beginning tonight.

Remaining Schedule for JV Boys Soccer

Coach Kinney has led her group from ground zero after the School 🏫 only fielded a Varsity team for the past few years. A recent victory over Pulaski County showed a six goal swing from a game between the two teams st the beginning of the season.

Coach and team will get another opportunity to have a measuring stick type of game on Wednesday evening when the host Abingdon in a Junior Varsity only match. The Falcons were the original opponent for the team this season.

Eight teams down, four to go !

Varsity Softball is also set to play at the friendly confines of Cavalier Park in four of the final six contests. The team will first head to James River tonight before returning home to play four straight contests.

The team has held their own at home but has struggled away from The Hill. The record at home is 3-2 but a series of close calls on the road have left the team on the wrong side of the scoreboard

The team will look to close out the regular season down the stretch in hopes of building for next season. Both Holly Miller and Faith Clontz should be healthy again with Carlie Beamer being the lone Lady Cavalier set to graduate πŸŽ“.

On the Junior Varsity team, Alexis Dalton and Terry Warf have been coaching their hearts out as two thirds of their roster is still in Middle School. The very young team is set to finish up the season as road Warriors beginning with a doubleheader today up in Buchanan.

The team has made great strides along the way, with one of the highlights being a 9 run inning versus Tazewell that led to a thrilling 13-11 victory.

Wrapping up the session is the hard working teams coached by Martin McKenzie and Christy Shupe.

Looking forward to next Monday afternoon when I will get to team up with Coach McKenzie to hold a Senior Day ahead of their Home match.

Somethings to know about the challenge of playing Tennis 🎾 in the Three Rivers District in the Spring time. The first event that gets canceled or postponed is a tennis match because once the court is wet its no longer safe to compete.

It feels like a non-stop βœ‹ challenge to get the matches played each year and then you factor in that some of our neighbors excel at the sport adds to the degree of difficulty.

Both Coaches have been great on sharing results to this point and there should be a flurry of matches down the home stretch.

Senior Ethan Richardson recently surpassed Jabin Talley as the record holder for most victories earned from the #1 seeded doubles team.

The duo played three seasons together and were victorious 33 times. Richardson has now broken 40 wins as he and Maverick Baker have enjoyed a high level of success in the top spot.

Two weeks remaining in the regular season and there’s plenty on the line for our Group of 12 !

Hopefully this breakdown will help you pick some spots where you can find some Cavaliers to cheer on !
