Carroll County JV Girls opened the night with a 2-0 victory over the PCHS Lady Cougars and Varsity closed out the night with a hard fought 2-1 victory.
The matches were the back end of the season series with the Cougars after the teams played in Dublin back on March 19th. Head Coach Brittany Kinney and her Junior Varsity team fell 4-0 in their second game as a team and Head Coach Adrienne Harris earned her first career victory that night with a 1-0 victory.
The six goal improvement shows just how far the JV team has come in the past six weeks. Keeper Chloe Wright and the backline defense answered every attempt on their end of the pitch across the sixty minutes and the Lady Cavs netted one in each half.
Genesis Harmon scored the opening goal with 4:59 remaining in the half on a penalty kick rewarded after a hand ball inside the box 📦. The teams went into the break at 1-0, with a decisive advantage in possession favoring CCHS.
The Lady Cavaliers continued to apply pressure in the second half and were awarded a second penalty kick at 23:26 but this time Keeper Rachel Woodyard came up with the stop ✋.
The second and final goal came with 8:44 remaining and was clearly the play of the match as Vanessa Contreras and Sherlyn Pedroza teamed up on an insurance goal. Contreras found Pedroza and the eighth grader put the biscuit in the basket 🧺.
Carroll County coasted in from that point to set the stage for the Varsity match.
Natalie Harris has returned from Emory and Henry for the year and was back on the sidelines assisting her older Sister Adrienne Harris with the Varsity squad.
The home team controlled the opening twenty minutes and came away with an early 1-0 lead. Just two minutes after Karmen Smith found Savannah Swecker for a great look that was turned away, Swecker found the back of the net at 23:30.
The Junior, along with Senior Ahliyah Riffey used their speed throughout the night to create opportunities near the net. Carroll County (7-2-2) was at its best in transition across the entire 80 minutes of play.
Alexis Sheffey turned away a direct kick at 21:00 by Jagger Davis, from 30 yards. Davis was spot on with her effort but Sheffey protected the shutout.
Callie Harris found Riffey at the 3:00 mark and the duo made it 2-0. The score would stand at the half and the 40 minutes was as good of an effort on the season.
In the opening 15 minutes of the second half the Lady Cavaliers had multiple great looks at the knockout punch 👊 but couldn’t convert. Harris dinged a shot of the post at 25:30 that seemed destined to find the back of the net but karomed away.
Less than one minute later (24:43) Leona Reed trimmed the lead in half with a laser goal from outside the box. Cutting the deficit in half energized PCHS for the remainder of the match.
Reed would come up with two more good looks at the net but was denied by Sheffey. The final attempt from Reed in the closing minutes never made it to Sheffey as Delexandra Avila Estrada sacrificed her body in blocking the effort from the strong legged Junior Tri-Captain.
Both squads will return to the Pitch early next week with matches on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the second one being JV only versus Abingdon.
