Personal note to the families involved, after the Soccer ⚽️ game I am driving to Roanoke to pick up my wife so if the Barnes or Easter Famalies would like a physical copy of the newspaper πŸ“°, please reach out.

Tonight is 100% about Marketing and Branding as we open the gates at Tommy Thompson Field on The Hill for Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer βš½οΈ

Adrienne Harris and Brittany Kinney are on a mission and have a few dozen highly enthusiastic Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers willing to follow their lead.

Tonight we celebrate the two teams playing at home for the first time this season. To add to the excitement, both the our Varsity Coach ( Harris) and JV Coach (Kinney) are making their coaching debut on the home pitch.

Harris is trying hard to hit the ground running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ and the fact that the Junior Varsity team was added in Year One is a testimony to her long-term goals for the program. It would have been easy to stick a pin πŸ“Œ in that thought process for a season and just focus on her Varsity team.

Kinney is a brave soul, one willing to jump into a situation where there is no real playing history. Her team is learning on the fly and she is as well. Building from scratch is hard, no matter the task.

When there are 12 teams vying for the attention of a fan base, its a great challenge to draw fans in. Tonight has hope because of the limited schedule.

Tomorrow Night πŸŒ™ we will be doing the same thing for Jeremy Puckett and Forrest Johnson with their Boys teams but that challenge will be greater because all 12 teams will be in action 🎬. We lose the opportunity for other Student Athletes to join us Thursday.

Β  The two Colleges that I do the most with are Appalachian State University and West Virginia Tech University. They are as opposite as day and night in regards to resources. People ask me what I do at WVU-T and the answer is what ever it takes to represent our School. When I show up at App State there are 15 people there to assist the effort on Game Day.

Come out to the Field tonight and watch some hard working πŸ’ͺ young Ladies perform for their dedicated Coaches. They will appreciate it more than you know!

Β  Our Kevin DeHaven is a hero in my World 🌎 and he falls into the One Man Band category that we have at Tech. The goal here is to test the waters πŸ’§in regards to game sponsorship for Soccer ⚽️. If you own a business or run a company that might be interested in taking one of the other home games, take a look around tonight and give it some thought.

Β  The biggest difference tonight is that I will be announcing the game so I won’t be making the same amount of noise because it will sound like self promotion. I don’t to use a local business name here because I am not trying to apply pressure on anyone so we will show the example using Outdoor Man Sporting Goods ( Tim Allen Fan).

Β  Here’s what Outdoor Man would receive for sponsorship – their business being acknowledged throughout the script read by the PA. The ability to have a banner by the ticket gate βž• a Photo with the teams βž• presentation of the game ball to the officials βž• taking the game ball home after the end of the matches.

Β  There are so many tweaks that can be added, like the ability to pass out giveaways at the gate.

We have two programs that involve four Coaches who all want the same thing for their dedicated Student Athletes – to play in front of a gathering.

Both Adrienne and Forrest have asked for the same thing. I believe πŸ™ in both of these young Adults and this is where we landed.

Six hours from now we will see if we made a dent in this. Speaking as someone who might be interested in sponsorship of a game, I would want to see that it worked – the question is how do you measure success tonight ? Is the answer 50, is it 100, is it 200 ?

We will find out soon enough !

Cody being Cody! But the Big Guy πŸ‘¦ had plenty of help last night at Bill Worrell Field.

Having spent the better part of the past four years watching πŸ‘€ Cody Reece develope into the young man that he is today, last night πŸŒ™ was a terrific example of who he is.

Reece came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning, 0 for 3 on the night. The Senior proceeded to leg out an infield single. He was standing on second base after fellow Cavalier Ben Phillips delivered a RBI single to make the score 9-2.

What followed next was a wild pitch that allowed Gage Nicholson to score from third base and impressively Reece followed him, scoring from second base on the play. Some nights you get to hit the ball over the fence and others you have to make something out of very little.

Dalton Busick followed with the Run Rule version of a walkoff base hit to close out the 12-2 victory.

Head Coach Casey Burcham played 10 and everyone of those Cavaliers either scored a run or collected a RBI. Nicholson reached base in all four plate appearances with two singles, one walk and one hit by pitch.

Peyton Spencer went Yard with a two run shot during his 2 for 3 evening.

The Junior Varsity team scored 11 more runs and remains undefeated.u

12 runs πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ scored on 13 hits in just four βž• innings. For this I will borrow from Nike when a young Spike Lee was telling Michael Jordan, Mikee, its gotta be the shoes, its gotta be the shoes.

Casey, it’s gotta be the building Casey, it’s gotta be the building !

The Castle 🏰 on The Hill !

The actual game story is on our site and should be available on The Carroll News site later today.

This was just a column that is designed for a fun take on the success.

We will close it out with a piece of Art from Eli Worrell’s kinfolk. Eli went 1 for 1 with a stolen base and a run scored.
