Carroll County falls 2-0 at James River Friday night but is now one step closer to a Home match.

Buchanan – James River improved to 5-2 on the season by scoring goal in each half to defeat Carroll County (4-2) 2-0 Friday night.

The bright side of the night for the Lady Cavaliers is that the long and windy ROAD is finally nearing the end. Improvements being made at Tommy Thompson Field has turned all four Soccer teams into Road Warriors. This stretch ends for Head Coach Adrienne Harris and Junior Varsity Coach Brittany Kinney next Wednesday night when their teams host George Wythe.

Carroll County opened the match with a great opportunity in the first minute of play. It lead to a corner kick that sailed just wide.

The two teams played the majority of the opening twenty minutes in the middle of the pitch, trying to setup a scoring opportunity. The Knights finally found the back of the net with 16:43 on the clock. The goal was a perfectly placed lazer to the upper right corner of the goal

CCHS earned a second corner kick two minutes later but once again kept the Lady Cavaliers at bay. The two teams played out the remaining of the opening 40 minutes with the score remaining at 1-0.

In the fourth minute of the second half the Knights scored from point blank range to push the lead out to 2-0. The remainder of the match actually favored the Lady Cavaliers, minus the fact that the team could not cut into the lead.

The five minute stretch between the eighth and thirteenth minute was controlled by Carroll County. Multiple runs into the box led to a shot that landed wide.

The defensive effort was there as well as Carroll County kept the home team from icing the game.

More great news for Coach Harris and her team is that the long road trips are now in the rear view mirror. The team has completed the Alleghany, James River and Glenvar Trifecta so the rest of the way the team will play on The Hill or on a pitch nearby.

The teams will make one more stop on their World 🌎 tour Monday night when the show pulls into Floyd County for one more road match.

One more stop βœ‹ and then a long home stand. The team stands at 4-2 before Floyd County. It’s almost time to enjoy some Home Cooking and the ever so important Home Fans.

April 29th is the first home date for the Varsity Boys team.
