Checking in on our Five “Rookie” Head Coaches debuting this Spring…and Thanking the veteran 7.

Adam Nester and the Nester Nine

With the addition of Girls JV Soccer ⚽️, Carroll County now has 12 Spring teams competing and this year we have five first year Head Coaches.

Varsity Baseball ⚾️ is off to a red hot start under the guidance of Casey Burcham. The team has dropped just one game and that one was a walkoff at Pulaski County. Burcham has been a staple of Cavalier baseball for decades and has hit the ground running now that he is in Captains seat.

Girls Varsity Soccer ⚽️ is led by an Alum as well. Adrienne Harris is not letting any grass grow on the Pitch as the recent Emory & Henry graduate has more than doubled the number of participants in the program and was instrumental in getting the Junior Varsity program reinstated.

The team stands at 4-1 with the lone setback coming at the hands of the back to back State Champs, Glenvar. All four victories came by shutout and all matches have been played away from The Hill as upgrades to Tommy Thompson Field are being completed.

The third of our Five new Coaches is Adam Nester. Nester inherited a program that has claimed the last five District Championships under Steve Combs. Combs moved up with Burcham to be the Assistant Head Coach, giving Nester his opportunity to run a program.

The Nester Nine improved to 7-0 last night 🌙 with five victories coming by shutout. Nester has managed this after having a starter moved up and losing one to injury. The group is talented and deep with the bonus of being very Coachable.

The final two new Coaches are facing unique challenges.

Brittany Kinney stepped up to lead the way for the reborn Girls JV Soccer ⚽️ program. Anytime one starts a program from scratch its going to include a number of players that are brand new to the game.

Coach Kinney is also working with a Varsity Coach that is trying to make her mark in her first season. If there is a duo to support in their efforts of trying hard to build for the future,, its Kinney and Harris. Patience is a key 🔑 ingredient for long-term success in Girls Soccer ⚽️

JV Girls Soccer ⚽️

The fifth and final Rookie Head Coach is Christy Shupe. Shupe gets a special nod of appreciation as she has stepped in to lead the CCHS Boys Tennis 🎾 team. Shupe is more known for her efforts announcing the Basketball 🏀 games inside the Cavalier Gym and teaching at the School. Taking the time to fill the spot vacated by former Coach Greg Talley is truly very commendable.

The start of the season was slightly delayed but is now in full swing. The team stands at 2-2 and will travel to Grayson County this Friday.
