In Mayo We Trust, Milk Cartons and Wow, is tomorrow going to be Crazy, Crazy Day in the Land of Cavaliers !

We will have a Game Story on the Girls victory over Glenvar tonight but first things first. After the game I was fortunate enough to get 10 quality minutes with Veteran Head Coach Howard Mayo. Combined, Mayo and I have over 100 years around the game of Basketball πŸ€, so its a treat to compare notes πŸ“ with someone else who has spent their entire life around the game that I love.

I would include Kris Richardson in this story but the only time I upset 😑 my friend and neighbor was the day I called him elderly. So maybe in another 10 years we could add him to the lifers club.

Once again, our Junior Varsity Girls were denied an opportunity to represent our School 🏫 and Community. Hence, the Milk Carton reference. I smiled when our hard working JV Coach (Hailie Cushman) smiled when I made the reference. The number of times that our younger Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers were ready to play ▢️ and couldn’t is flirting with double figures.

I appreciate that our team is still engaged and looking to play. Monday night at Christiansburg is quite possibly the final window of opportunity for our Coaches and players.

In regards to tomorrow morning πŸŒ„, we have big events taking place on several fronts.

Wrestling Coach West Long will be getting up at the crack of dawn to take his team to the Regional tournament at Staunton River High School 🏫.

Both of our Swim πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ Teams are heading up to Christiansburg for their Regional meet.

The day is going to push Shannon Dalton past her unbelievable commitment.

”  Thanks for the well wishes. Tomorrow will be both region swim and region Scholastic Bowl. The day has finally come when I can’t actually be in two places at once.”

You can tell that quote was from Mrs Dalton because I would have used a Capital R in region.

We are going to need some help on a number of fronts to get everyone involved the coverage their day deserves πŸ‘.

Toss in that Elijah Cox and Randolph will be playing at 4:30 pm over in Danville and Alyssa Ervin just finished up down at UNC – Wilmington

Back to Coach Mayo, I am already looking forward to next time our paths cross as the opportunity to compare notes πŸ“ with a fellow lifer is a treasure for someone who has five decades of experience with the game of Roundball

Next stop βœ‹ will be the Girls πŸ‘§ Gamer !

Weekend plans continue to change by the minute as Golden Bears 🐻 Baseball ⚾️ moves from Saturday and Sunday in Beckley to just Friday DH up the Turnpike in Charleston

The things one stumbles across at 4:30 am…. The greatest challenge to playing NAIA Baseball ⚾️ in February is finding away to get the games played.

Our four game series set to begin tomorrow afternoon at Linda K Epling Stadium 🏟 has been traded out for a two game set today up in Charleston, WV.

Go-Mart Park is another top notch facility with astroturf so it provides a back up plan.

The weather forecast for the weekend makes the hope of playing four games almost impossible so the next best thing is to try and salvage two of the set.

Stay tuned….

Checking in on our 3 College Basketball πŸ€ players on a Friday Morning πŸŒ„ that happens to be Valentines πŸ’ Day

Katie Lam
Elijah Cox
Alyssa Ervin

Let’s start with Roanoke College Freshman Katie Lam. Roanoke is currently riding a 7 game winning streak and sits at 13 – 10.

Lam (5’10) recorded a season high of 13 points and is averaging 2.4 points for the Maroons in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Two regular season games remain before the ODAC tournament.

________________________________

Elijah Cox is a 6’5 Sophomore at Randolph.Β  The team currently sits at 7-14 with a game to be made up over at Ferrum.

Cox just recently netted 10 points in a contest, one of his season high of 11 points. Four games remain in the regular season, including two slated for this weekend that are close by

Alyssa Ervin is a 5’11 Freshman at Elon University and the team is slated to play later today at UNC – Wilmington.

Elon is 12-9 on the season and Ervin has logged minutes in 16 of the 21 contests with a couple of them being missed due to the flu.

Ervin also reached double figures with 10 points at Virginia Tech, giving all three of our former Cavaliers at least one game where the have scored in double figures this season. The team competes in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

The Phoenix have eight regular season games remaining before they play in the CAA post season tournament.

I feel fortunate to have taken in one game each for the trio this season and look forward to seeing how their seasons play out from here.
